About Me
哈囉,會說中文的朋友可以叫我宜庭~
Hello hello, I'm Jenny, and Cincinnati is home. I'd say I'm pretty cheerful and adventure-seeking. I aim to live a plastic-free life. Amateur ukulelist. I learn, research, and teach for a living. I hope to bring about more inclusive representations in the STEM community. Ask me about the evolution of facial morphology and facial discrimination in jumping spiders. ✨

My current 50+ hour work week proves a challenge to regularly host couchsurfers, unfortunately.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love the wonderful and open-minded people of the couchsurfing community. :) I love to meet new friends, learn about new cultures, have new experiences.
CS is such a better way to travel and see a new city through the local lens, as opposed to glimpsing the surface as a mere tourist. Seeing different places and different people sparks new ideas and pulls you out of your own routinely life.
I enjoy opening my home to travellers whenever I can -- plus, hosting travelers also helps me see my city in a new light.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the summer of 2019, I spent a month collecting jumping spiders in diverse habitats across Singapore. It was my first intensive fieldwork experience and my first time in Singapore, and we had such a lovely collaboration with the local lab at the national university. It was amazing to experience new culture and language and lifestyle and food -- all with wonderful new friends! Oh, and leeches are awful. We stumbled upon those in Malaysia. Would not recommend leeches, 0/10.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach me about anything! Tell me your story! I love learning about the different lenses through which to see and interact with the world.
I may take a second to warm up, but I have plenty of life stories and science trivia to share. I had previously studied the bad ass Mexican blind cavefish and have now moved onto the colorful jumping spiders, so if you're curious, I can tell you lots about them. I can share my own experiences in music and culture and education and language.
Tal vez podemos charlar en español? Hace qué muucho tiempo lo que hablo... Tengo que practicar.
