About Me

Friendly and always happy to meet new people. Couchsurfing early adopter - here since CS website launch in 2004 (heard about it on old school Lonely Planet Thorn Tree online forum :) Older now, but still on the move; have had the greatest experiences through this community and made lifelong friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While living in London, we hosted literally hundreds of couchsurfers. I also hosted a few different people while living in Chicago. I've surfed in Toulouse, Barcelona, Venice, Sarajevo, Ljubljana, Belgrade, and Montreal. All were great experiences.

Interests

This is the third year I've been on standby to go to Antarctica with the United States Antarctic Program - hopefully I'll get to go next year. My current goal is to eventually get onto the Antarctic rigging/tower climbing team.

I'm interested in traveling and experiencing different cultures and ways of thinking. I like making music, food, and learning about people. I love sailboats and sailing in warm waters, and have experience traveling on sailboats (though limited knowledge of actually sailing them). I'd love to one day hop freight trains and hitchhike through Europe, take the Trans Siberian Express across Russia and Asia, drive from Alaska to Chile on the Pan American Highway, and maybe improve my French a bit.

I adore dogs, and animals in general.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My musical tastes have mellowed out as I've gotten a bit older.

Movies I've enjoyed recently include Embrace of the Serpent, Le Mepris, Office Space, Vi är bäst!, I Origins, Wetlands, and a lot more.

Books: I really loved Autonauts of the Cosmoroute by Julio Cortazar & Carol Dunlop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Here's a few: Hitchhiking solo through Bosnia and Serbia. Putting myself through undergrad and grad school. Living in lots of different countries. Starting my own company.

Teach, Learn, Share

Guitar (a bit), things about London, a tiny bit of Finnish. Many dad jokes. Lots of useless facts and trivia.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, laughter, my attention, conversation...a drink, some food, discussions about life.

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Laos, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
