Overview
About Me
I'm an avid outdoors person and tend throw myself into nature whenever possible, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, anything else you can do in the middle of nowhere. In cities, I'm a public transit and cycling enthusiast as well as a devout seeker of good food. I will go across an entire city on the promise of a good meal. I'm a bit of a tech junkie and do various computer jobs to pay the bills.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
After hosting frequently in my flat while in uni, I've been on somewhat of a hiatus from Couchsurfing as I've been living in a series of rather informal setups (cheap, but not flexible). Instead, I'm now visiting meet ups when I travel for work.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
While living in a small three bedroom place on Chicago's South Side, I hosted more than 300 Couchsurfers, and took three in as roommates at various points.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a big fan of literary dystopia, 1984, Brave New World, and the like. I also like a good fantasy or science fiction novel, think Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett or Ursula K. Le Guin. I read plenty of graphic novels, and when I feel up to it, I like to dive into critical social theory, Lefebvre, Durkheim, Weber, those folks. Right now, I'm work thru a thick tome of works by physicists throughout history.
I'm a fan of Kubrick and Tarantino, and really appreciate anything well written. I trend towards foreign films and indie comedies in addition to blockbusters, but I draw from the whole spectrum of genres. I've recently enjoyed "The Gand Budapest Hotel" and the short film "The Missing Scarf".
I listen to a wide swath of music, Queen and David Bowie, Jurassic 5 and Hilltop Hoods, Radiohead and Tom Waits, Loreena McKennitt and Lily Allen, Daft Punk and Air, and plenty of American folk music. I often switch from humming the tune to a hymn to singing along with They Might Be Giants or Fitz and the Tantrums, with a fair amount of Russian and Latin music thrown in for good mix.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I fell off a cliff in the Painted Desert.
I climbed out of the Grand Canyon with an eighty pound pack.
I competed in a fifty mile adventure race in the snowy woods of Indiana.
I accidentally cut the tip of my nose off with a knife.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've almost a decade of experience in building and fixing computers and I'm an Eagle Scout (the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America) with over a couple hundred nights of camping experience.
