PHILOSOPHY


Guru's formative years were spent in small town, in the middle of the America's 'heartland'. Humid, sunny days spent in a scenic river setting reminiscent of Mark Twain's 'Tom Sawyer'. Vevay Indiana (owes its name to Vev(e)y Switzerland (located on Lake Geneva & residence of Charlie Chaplain), was originally settled in the 1800's by a group of adventurous Swiss seeking a climate similar to their homeland and close to sources of irrigation in order to establish vineyards. I traveled this same journey down the Ohio River at age 15 with a friend (4 week journey). The climate was not the most conducive to the growing of grapes (however many new vineyards have recently been resurrected), so eventually the Swiss switched to more well suited crops, such as Tobacco (which Guru cut & housed as a kid). Guru, eager to stake his claim in the world, enlisted in the Army at the ripe old age of 17, and set off for a tour of duty in Europe!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

first stayed with Yogis Jeren/Joesph in Indpls before moving to China...was wonderful experience...also stayed with German Teacher Marcus for the weekend in Beijing China and was fabulous! Also other stays in Kunming, Shanghai, and Nanning China. All great experiences! Have hosted 15 or 20 times myself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Experienced the ritual of being beaten by reeds in a Russian banya or very, very hot sauna (supposed to increase circulation) while in the Tien Shien mountains outside of Almaty, Kazakhstan. Vodka was also part of the weekend equation (smile)

Rafting down the Mekong River in Lao PDR.

Swimming with Dolphins in St. Lucia.

Water water rafting and Rainforest 4 wheeling in Thailand.

Traveled China for two months from Beijing and Shanghai areas, to Yellow Mtns, week cruise down the Yangtze River, Sichuan to see the Pandas, Yunnan, then back across to Guilin (stopping many places along way), to Guangzhou, Macau, then Hainan Island

Eating live sushi in Tokyo, Japan. After a bit of cold, premium sake you won't mind.

Participated in military training exercises near the 'Iron Curtain' & 'Fulda Gap' on the Czech, East-West Soviet border, and joint German-American
Schutzwaffen competition.

Canoed (like Tom Sawyer) 3 1/2 weeks down the Ohio River to the mouth of the Mississipi River when I was 15 years old. Interviewed and appeared in several
newspapers along the way.

Studied at Harvard graduate school for 2 years full time. Studied 24/7 and lived in the basement of Widener Library. Took intensive Mandarin Chinese Language one summer which required at least 4 hours of class time and a total of some 8-10 hours of study per day. The course is the equivalent of an entire year (2 semesters) crammed into one summer, where they cover listening, speaking and writing of 650 Chinese characters.

Attended black gospel church (one year during college) that met weekly in an old historic theatre in Indianapolis. Very spiritual group, and singing was phenomenal to say the least. Being the adventurist soul that I am, I like to discover and experience new
things!!

Attended college and university graduate school for a total of 13 years, working and paying for it all on my own.

Sold apples from our apple tree door to door with my little red wagon when I as a very young entrepreneur smile))

Olympic bobsled gold medalist (I made that one up)
