About Me
CURRENT MISSION 🦸🏼♂️
It is better to regret the things you did, than the things you didn't do!
Relaxed, easy going Dutch guy 🏳️🌈
ABOUT ME
Life is short, so I try not to waste it. My name is Mattijn, an outgoing world traveler from the Netherlands 🇳🇱. I will teach you how to pronounce my name when we meet.
My friends would probably describe me as social, a little bit crazy and always in for spontaneous good ideas. And like most Couchsurfers I am open minded, easy going, relaxed and like to meet new people.
I like go to gay / queer parties and bars. 🏳️🌈 Love geeky stuff as well. Hence, you could say that I am a social nerd.
According to the Myers-Briggs 16 personalities test I have an Extraverted, iNtuitive, Feeling, Perceiving (ENFP) personality. Hence my characteristics are that I'm positive, enthusiastic and I like to bring joy, liveliness and fun to people. Feel free to do the online test as well on: www.my-personality-test.com
It's free and it only takes 10 minutes. It gives a lot of interesting insight about yourself. And it's always a great conversation topic.
I studied Applied Mathematics at the university of Eindhoven, which is not as boring as it may seem. Actually it is quite cool to solve all kinds of puzzles. In the past I have been teaching mathematics at high schools, worked in IT and now I am working as a Business Consultant where I help my company and co-workers with changes and improvements.
PHILOSOPHY
My motto: I rather live one day as a tiger 🐯 than a thousand years as a sheep. 🐑
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love to meet people who are open to show me their country and culture full of passion as I like to do the same for them. I love the interaction between travelers and locals. In my opinion you can learn from everybody, independent of their background.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Joined Couchsurfing in 2011. Pretty active with hosting, surfing and going to couchsurfing events. So far I hosted over 50 couchsurfers from all around the world. I have been couchsurfing myself in several countries in Europe, Latin Amerika, Africa, Asia and Australia. Always with great experiences.
Interests
Always in for a good conversation with a glass of CH3CH2OH (= alcohol).
Like to talk about different subjects like: dreams, goals in life, sports, languages, politics, teaching, mathematics, travelling, science, music, the universe, cultural differences, etc. Love to party, traveling and do random things. In general I am always in for a beer/wine and a nice chat.

Music, Movies, and Books
U2, Rolling Stones and Coldplay. Also local 'heros' like Guus Meeuwis (from the Netherlands) and Slim Dusty (famous in Australia) and when I go out I love music from Avicii.
My favorite book is "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss. It explains how you can be more happy by working less. Very inspiring.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Skydiving! That was awesome! Didn't think, just jumped...
- Bungee jumping from Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa. Woohoo!
- Volunteer mathematics teacher at a school in Cape Town. See: www.teachersforafrica.org
- Survived a bus trip in South Africa when we lost a rear wheel on the high way while driving 120 km/h. Luckily we can laugh about it afterwards.
- Diving the Great Barrier Reef. Beautiful to see the world below water.
- Being an 'introdaddy' and showing new international students from all over the world around at Eindhoven University of Technology.
- Traveling the world with only a backpack for a long long time
- Being served by a drone in a bar
- A homeless guy took me out for dinner after someone had stolen my wallet. A month later I went back to Brussels to find this homeless guy and thanked him by giving him a dinner.
Teach, Learn, Share
Favorite hobby: collect great memories. Be open to new things and learn from your mistakes. Couchsurfing is not a free hotel, it is all about people. I have met couchsurfers who felt as if we were friends for several years. Those were great new memories.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A good conversation. An unforgettable experience. Some mathematics tricks. Great travelling stories.
If you send me a couchrequest, I appreciate it if you make it personal and explain why you would like to meet me. I really love to host people, but I am not a free hostel. If you just want a place to sleep, I recommend you to book a hostel or hotel. If you like to interact and share cool conversations and stories with a host, then I am happy to host you. Big plus if you are LGBT friendly.
Please mention the word "PYTHAGORAS" in your couchrequest to show that you have read my profile completely.
