About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live each day with gratitude and lend a hand if I can. My hope is to create a friendlier, more sustainable future.
ABOUT ME
Lover of nature, family, and the eclectic, thought-provoking wonders of the world. Known for catching snakes, lizards, and other critters. Fluent in French. Happy husband and proud dad. Part science geek, part artist. Part minimalist, part tech-junkie. Motivated, but disorganized. Love to get to know people, but am terrible with name-face recall.
PHILOSOPHY
Live true to one's self and in a manner that respects each life. Learn from nature.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have crashed on floors, in yards, and in guest bedrooms of many generous friends, acquaintances, and even a few strangers. I have welcomed people into my own home--mainly wandering biologists or stray students. We enjoy the Couchsurfing website because it helps us bring interesting people into our home and helps expand our views.
Interests
I love the outdoors and learning from the natural world. I enjoy learning new things each day. I am privileged to teach biology and carry out research (mainly horned lizards). I have an interest in entrepreneurship and how companies can have a positive impact on the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like films, music, and books that create strong emotional responses or that leave me thinking for a long time. One of my favorite movies is "Life is Beautiful," and one of my favorite authors is Atul Gawande. I enjoy books on permaculture, entrepreneurship, psychology, biology, and medicine.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
*Going into a bear den to tranquilize the mama bear
*Seeing the sunrise at Ayer's Rock, Australia
*Witnessing the birth of each of my four children (three born at home)
*I watched a long-tailed weasel catch a vole
*I have caught a porcupine with my bare hands without harming either one of us
*Love to find snakes, lizards, and other wildlife
Teach, Learn, Share
My current passions are permaculture (Geoff Lawton and Paul Wheaton are a couple of my heroes), and cryptocurrency (Iota in particular). My wife and I are both master lizard trackers (seriously--we have spent years tracking flat-tailed horned lizards!). I like to learn languages and have been thrilled to use my French to help Congolese asylum-seekers that have come across the border to Del Rio. I am interested in many things and always ready to learn about something new. I know a lot about ebikes. I'm good at making crepes.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Friendly home with kids and pets, usually something tasty to eat. We enjoy hearing and sharing stories.
