About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience the world! :)

ABOUT ME

My name is Vár, I'm 21 years old and from Tórshavn, Faroe Islands (a small country located in the North Atlantic Sea).
For the next couple of years I'll live in Denmark as I'm studying here.

Summer 2011 I finished gymnasium and went backpacking for five months - USA, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Hong Kong - OH such an amazing time we had!!

I have always been very interested in buildings and design. So now I'm studying Architecture & Design in Denmark. I like it very much.

In my spare time I like to exercise, mostly gymnastics as I've always been a gymnast, read a book, surf on the internet, go for a walk (especially in beautiful nature in the Faroe Islands!), hang out with my lovely friends, cook, listen to music, run etc.

I love travelling!! Experience new cultures and meet people from all over the world, sharing each others experiences etc. is a fantastic feeling!

I like to tell people about the Faroe Islands, share my travel experiences and listen to other's experiences. Most of the time I'm a smiling person :D

If you want to know more about me you’re more than welcome to ask ;)

PHILOSOPHY

"Live everyday as if it were your last"

"Follow your heart"

"Smile to the world and the world will smile to you" :)

"When nothing goes right - go left"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been surfing a couple of times and it has been amazing.
As I've been living with my parents and siblings until recently I haven't been able to host anyone yet. And now I live in a one-room apartment which also makes it a bit impossible. Hopefully one day!! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

First time I tried CS'ing was in Sydney, Australia 2011. It was amazing!
Since then I've tried CS'ing a couple of times and I only had very good experiences.
CS'ing is the definitely best way to travel :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
Mostly I'm listening to alternative/indie. Depending on the occation or my mood I like to listen to other genres like pop, rock, dance etc.
My favorite bands are Florence and the Machine, Ida Maria, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kooks, Muse, Lily Allen, Eminem and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Beyoncé.
Also I listen a lot to Faroese musicians like Eivør, Teitur, Frændur, Týr, Páll Finnur Páll etc.

Movies
Uh, I like watching movies. Think I like almost every genre.

Books
When I've got the time I like to read, mostly genres like fantasy, crime and based on a true story.
Harry Potter 1-7, Life of Pi, The Kite Runner, Sold and a danish book called Maria.
I also like to read books about architecture, design and how to paint and draw.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Staying in Uummannaq, Greenland in 2001. My mother was working at an orphanage for three months and meanwhile I went to school there. Most of the time we travelled around the small villages with the children from the orphanage - the sea was covered with thick ice and icebergs, so we had to travel by dog sled. In the different villages we stayed in small huts with no water (only from the icebergs), no shower etc. Sometimes there were only one or two huts and nothing else where we stayed. It felt like being in a children's dream!! :)
I got lots of new friends! I am definitely going back to Uummannaq!! <3
