About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Find adventure (or at least misadventure) in everything we do.
ABOUT ME
In March of 2011, we quit our jobs, sold everything we could and donated the rest in search of travel, adventure and volunteer opportunities. We love hanging out with anyone who's near, so if you're in the area we happen to be in, we'd love to meet up for climbing, hiking, coffee or whatever you're in to. Our minds and schedules are open.ABOUT MEISHA: I'm probably not your typical "girly girl". I love the outdoors and enjoy sports like rock climbing and canyoneering and don't mind getting dirty. I like pushing my limits while traveling. It's always a challenge to see just how little you can get by on... both supplies and budget. My current focus in life is to open myself up to discovering new passions. I enjoy taking black & white photos and like finding beauty in simple shapes, lines and structure. I was born with a very rare eye condition called Achromatopsia. Because of this condition, I am legally blind (I see only 10% of what a fully-sighted person sees), completely colorblind (I see in grayscale, much like a black and white TV) and have dayblindness (I am extremely light sensitive and require the darkest possible sunglasses to function outside). It's definitely a challenge, but I hope that through my travels, activities and photos, I can inspire others with disabilities to pursue passions of their own.ABOUT JOSH: First of all, I'm kind of a dork... but hopefully the good kind. I love playing around on computers. I really enjoy things like graphic design (primarily with Photoshop) and web design. Since beginning our travels, I've also really gotten into making videos, video editing and photography. Outside of the nerdy stuff, I'm a huge adrenaline junky. I've been into big mountain skiing for too many years to count and after spending some time living in the red rocks of Southern Utah, I've developed a huge love for rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, canyoneering and pretty much anything else one can do on rocks. I'm definitely passionate about music and art too. I grew up playing drums, guitar and piano and love both making and listening to music. I took up painting a couple of years ago and so far have just played around a bit with acrylics on canvas. I hope with a little bit of time and practice, I might actually paint a beautiful picture someday. Who knows? Maybe it will be for you ;)
The easiest way to learn, experience and see the most about us (without actually meeting us) would be to visit our website: CLICK HERE if you'd like to have a look.
PHILOSOPHY
EVERY SECOND IS AN ADVENTUREWe've learned that you can't enjoy life without actually experiencing a bit of it. There's not much to gain from staying cooped up at home every day. Sometimes taking that first step out the front door is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. With the right state of mind, every second really can be an adventure. There's so much fun out there to be had and we live to have as much of it as possible.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
WE HOSTWe've hosted in our home (when we had one) and since have actually even let some CS friends surf our tent at a music festival
WE SURFOf course we surf! We're traveling full time since March of 2011. We've had the pleasure of staying with and meeting many incredible human beings so far.
WE MEET, DRINK AND BE MERRYAs we travel, we do our best to participate in local groups and attend local meetups and mixers. We also love meeting up with people whenever possible so please don't be shy... Send us a message!. Our vices: strong coffee, dark beer and red wines :)
WE ADVOCATEAs we mentioned, we have a blog. If you browse this blog, you'll find CS promoted in many of our posts. We love sharing CouchSurfing with anyone who will take the time to listen or to read about it.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
POSITIVE. POSITIVE. POSITIVE!We've now been a part of CS for just over a year and have had nothing but great experiences so far! We feel so lucky to have found this site as it's really helped us to break out of our shells. We loved hosting when we had a home and would be happy to host again... if anyone were willing to share a van or tent with us :) We've also stayed with some truly hospitable and trusting people and have learned much from everyone we've met so far.
Interests
LEARNING. ANYTHING & EVERYTHING.Aside from learning, we also love rock climbing, rappelling, canyoneering, skiing, surfing, hiking, backpacking, computer geeking, meeting new people, dark beer, wine, chocolate, conscious conversation and coffee.

Music, Movies, and Books
MUSICOur music tastes vary quite a bit from prog rock like Tool (or basically anything Maynard does) to electronic stuff like mind.in.a.box or reggae-ish stuff like Slightly Stoopid.
MOVIESWe like mind-bending thinker type movies and watch lots of documentaries of all kinds. We're suckers for good animated movies as well.
BOOKSWe've read enough business, motivational and personal improvement books for a lifetime. Among our most influential:
The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss
Vagabonding by Rolf Potts.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We walked away from high income and mass amounts of possessions to pursue a life of full-time wandering. It has been the most difficult and interesting thing we've done with our lives up to this point. So far we've traversed the U.S. while living in a van, then hopped a train to Florida & a plane to Costa Rica. Upon returning to the states we've continued traveling in the van, interjected by a few work stints in St. Louis and Salt Lake City. We're looking forward to many more amazing things to come...Since March 2011, we've visited Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, California, Oregon, Canada (Kind of) and Costa Rica!
Teach, Learn, Share
TEACHWe love rock climbing, rappelling & canyoneering. We have extra gear and have taught many CSers how to have fun on the rocks along our way. Josh also has earned money in the winter working as a certified ski instructor and is happy to teach anybody anytime. We've also learned a bit about blogging and can definitely teach you about Wordpress, Photoshop and other computer geeky stuff.
LEARNOne of the primary purposes of our travels is to learn, which means we're open to learning almost anything. The things we're currently incredibly interested in: Dancing (of any kind), Spanish language and the craft(s) of making tasty things like chocolate, beer or wine.
SHAREExperiences. Ah, but that should be a given here on CS. We do like to share things like art and music ;) Also, we like to make survival bracelets so if your can find some para chord (or something similar) we'll show your how to make one for yourself :D
