Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSIONS
Gain Japanese fluency, become part of a vibrant social scene here in Hokkaido, write my next book, and have an even bigger amazing social network of creative friends around the world.
ABOUT ME
Bought a house in Otaru and seeking the Japanese (expat) dream. The room is a bit rough but open to couchsurfers. Also open to meeting up and hanging out for food, coffee, drinks etc. I’m new here so don’t expect a guide!
You can read my latest adventures and find my books at my blog at http://www.vagobond.com
PHILOSOPHY
Make lemonade and smile highly.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been hosting couch surfers and being hosted for most of my life. Before couchsurfing.com, it was with friends of friends. Since joining couch surfing, I've loved hosting, surfing, and meeting new couch surfing friends everywhere I go.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfing couches is one of the best ways to make new friends and solidify existing friendships. It's a beautiful thing to share space, share food, share laughter, and share joy.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like the writing of Basho, Orhan Pamuk, Kim Stanley Robinson, and many others. I generally like my own writing too - more than 20 books written at this point.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I founded a syncretic spiritual philosophy called Baoism. The only hard rule is 'Don't be toxic
' and you get to decide what that means.
Teach, Learn, Share
Taking the time to learn about credit cards, mileage points, and the value of a good credit score in our insane society was a good decision - even though I would prefer we lived in a society where all those things were completely unnecessary.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I have some good stories and a warm personality. I've almost always arrived at a host's place and then left a friend's place.
