About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live, travel, love, and learn. To make the word 'live' synonymous with that first sentence.
ABOUT ME
I am a 28 year old Canadian who loves the outdoors, mainly kayaking. I could never live without the water nearby. Give me a boat and a paddle and a small group of people and I am in my element. I enjoy guiding, taking enthusiastic people out in the environment I love and teaching them about nature, history, and paddling. Sometimes I'm quiet, but I don't really like to consider myself shy... I just like to try and absorb everything others are saying and doing. Mark Twain said it best; "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt". I know a lot of random things...not because I'm particularly smart, I'm just very curious. Outside of my relationships with friends and family, learning through reading, watching, doing, talking and experiencing all give more meaning to my life than anything else. The more I find out about the world (or universe, I guess would be more accurate), the more it amazes me, and that's reward enough in itself. Also, given the right categories, I can kick some ass at Jeopardy.
PHILOSOPHY
Somewhere in between Anarcho-primitivism and Singularitarianism :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Unfortunately, as I'm at a nomadic point in my life, I don't have a place of my own to put up right now, but as soon as I do it will be open to all. Until then, as a surfer, I love great conversation, and my ridiculous appetite for novelty and new things to learn has left me adequately versed in a lot of different subjects, if not knowing any one of them particularly well. I think the term is "cocktail party proficient"
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Still relatively new on here, and have only been hosted along with my girlfriend Kat 4 times. Still, I can say I've probably met some of the loveliest, kindest people I've ever met on here. It's pretty amazing that something like this exists, when you think about it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books? Anything by Daniel Quinn (Ishmael, My Ishmael, The Story of B), Anything Cyberpunk, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, lots of different non-fiction, Richard Dawkins, A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson, Douglas Adams, The Life of Pi, The Lord of the Rings, The Stand, Guns Germs and Steel, The Singularity is Near, anything to do with science in general (especially biology or ecology) provided I can digest it, I have a nasty habit of reading 2-3 books at the same time, and only getting about 2/3 through them before something else steals my interest....I blame the internet!
Music; well...too much to list here. I have a pretty broad range from Metal to Classical... Sepultura to Chopin. I generally don't enjoy most pop, country, dance, reggae, or really hardcore/repetitive techno, but there are exceptions in all of those genres. Everything else is pretty fair game.
Movies; The Matrix, Memento, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Usual Suspects, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke, Waking Like, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fight Club, Inception, Boondock Saints,
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lived in the back of a mini-van (not a camper van) traveling around for 6 months with my girlfriend in New Zealand. And we didn't murder each other, and are even still together!
Swam with sharks, manta rays and seals in Fiji and New Zealand.
Did some motorbiking around Laos and a bit of Thailand.
Jumped out of a plane a few times.
While in Vietnam, in the very first town myself and my girlfriend accidentally crashed a wedding reception and I promptly got very drunk on rice wine in the early afternoon, much to the amusement of our hosts.
One time one of my friends went to punch me in the shoulder as I was reading a book and I casually caught his fist with one hand without looking. It was a fluke, but I felt like a total bad-ass.
