About Me

It seems every time I meet someone new, I discover a new interest. Nothing is more fascinating than talking to someone about their passionate interest in something I've never even heard of before. If it interests you, chance are talking about it will interest me.

Please read the 'my home' section of my profile. If you're traveling with someone, give me the link to their CS profile. Please also mention why you're interested especially in staying with us, as we're only interested in hosting people who are interested in us and want to spend a little time with us. We aren't interested in just being a free place to sleep.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We had our first couchsurfing experience in January 2013 in Moscow, and we couldn't have had a better experience. Our two days with our hosts were the best part of our ten-day visit.

We have a guest room that we'd love to share with the kind of people who think couchsurfing is a cool way to see the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We are empty nesters in a too-big home and decided to try offering our extra space to the kind of interesting people who think couchsurfing is a cool way to travel.

We surfed for the first time in Moscow in January 2013, and we couldn't have had a better first experience.

Interests

I love food! I love to visit farmers' markets and local restaurants everywhere I travel, and I adore trying something I've never tried before. I love to cook and am happy to cook with you! If you're staying with me, bring me a favorite recipe (and any ingredients that would be difficult to find here) I'll try it out while you're here! And if you too are an enthusiastic cook, perhaps we can cook together and share a meal!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm interested in too many books to list! I finally had to give up buying books because they were taking over my house. Now I only buy a book the SECOND time I want to read it.

As far as movies go, I'm on a Bollywood kick right now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every beautiful view is amazing. I can sit and watch mountains for hours, and even a view across a winter cornfield has its own beauty.

In May 2013, we watched our couchsurfer from the night before win the Flying Pig marathon, her first marathon, in Cincinnati. That was pretty amazing!

In Mexico in February 2013, I watched a mother whale teach her brand new baby how to breach. We watched for about half an hour while she first taught her baby to slap its tail on the water, then rise up out of the water with its head, roll over and slap its fins on the water, and finally to jump clear of the water, all while partially supporting it with her own body.

I had an amazing experience in the Moscow metro in January 2013. As I was walking up a long tunnel from the platform, there was classical music playing over the speakers and echoing from the tiled walls. It absolutely filled my senses; I felt as if I were in an epic Russian movie. Up ahead of me I saw a man set down a violin case and take out a violin, and I wondered how on earth he thought he was going to compete with the echoing music. And he put his violin to his shoulder, and as I approached he started to accompany the music, and the look he gave me as I passed him told me that he'd seen what I was wondering and enjoyed my astonishment when he started playing. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced, and I wished I'd videotaped it so I could share it with others. But even without taping it, it's stayed with me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach ANYONE how to make a FANTASTIC loaf of bread. I don't care if you barely know how to turn on an oven, I can teach you to produce bread as good as any you get in any boulangerie.

If you can teach me to cook something I've never had, I'll buy the ingredients!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love to bring you something from Cincinnati/the US. If there's something in particular that would be welcome to you, please let me know! I'd love to cook for you or with you!
