About Me

Hey travellers!
I'm Valerie from Germany and well, what is there to say about me: the last couple of years of my life I worked as a journalist, but I’m now transitioning into social work, which is what I’ll be studying at the end of this year. Didn’t think I’d change my whole career in my late twenties but I really feel passionate about getting active in social matters instead of only reporting about it so here we go! :)
Of course, like all of you, I delight in getting to know people, hearing them talk about their lives, discovering similarities and enriching differences. I am not the most experienced yet since I've only been in a couple of European countries plus Columbia, but I'm looking forward to exploring more and more cultures and places within the next years. If you're ever in Berlin, hit me up :)!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I don‘t only want to talk about getting out of my comfort zone and connect with people from all over the world, I actually want to DO it :)!

Music, Movies, and Books

I‘m a serious series binger if I have the time, ranging from sitcoms like Parks and Recreation/Superstore etc to heavier material like the Severance (grandios one!) only thing is: it can’t get TOO scary or brutal :D (I haven’t seen half of Game of Thrones because I had to cover my eyes).

Apart from that, I‘m trying to get back into reading more (aren‘t we all), because I was a huge book worm as a kid and I miss it a bit. I absolutely love Carmen Maria Machado (writes like a goddess), if you haven’t read anything by her, do yourself a favor and change that!:)

About movies: I think I haven‘t seen a lot of the classics, but I do love movies and especially going to the cinema. I worked at an open air movie theatre once and loved it, every city should have one :)
My favourite comedy movie is What we do in the shadows, Taika Waititi is a genius.

Also: I love singing and jamming with people or even just going to a karaoke bar and making a bit of a fool out of myself :) I don’t have a favourite genre, I guess there‘s at least one good song in any of them (apart from modern day German Schlager, sorry )

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being invited to a family dinner by locals of La Isla grande and then going swimming with them in the night in a lake in the middle of the island

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you German or English as well as incredible 5 chords on the guitar! Aaandd I‘m full to the brim with random, but often not that useful facts :D
