About Me
•The only way I can appreciate something, is if I can understand it. •If I weren’t a scientist, I’d be a musician. •I love wine! To a fault. •I love travelling! I just took a gap year to travel and spent it teaching English in Korea. •I just lived to Berlin to start my PhD. •Thai food and Italien food are god’s gift to mankind. I also love trying food from every country I visit. Wine too :) •I am quiet introverted, but solo travel is currently changing that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
At this point, I am a full time solo traveler. I’ve lived in the past three years, I’ve lived alone in Cape Town, Montpellier, Seoul and now Berlin. During my free time, I like to do weekend long trips to neighboring cities or countries. I think couchsurfing is a better way to travel than private accommodation and tourist guide books. I would like to stay with locals to get the full cultural experience of each country that I visit. I also really enjoy meeting other travelers. Exchanging ideas, experiences, learning and listening to other people's stories, is at the moment, the meaning of my life...drinking wine as well :P

Music, Movies, and Books
•Music - blues, jazz, rock and folk (Miriam Makeba, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Lira, Carla Bruni, Stromae, 혁오, Lightnin' Hopkins, Son House, Rolling Stone, Queen, Elvis, Hendrix, Pixies, Led Zeppelin, Little Richard, Beach Boys, David Bowie, Clapton, Sinatra, Ray Charles, Damien Rice, Norah Jones, Kaleo, Kodaline, The Lumineers, Milky Chance, Sylvan Esso, The Head and the Heart, Aurora, Shakey Graves, Frank Ocean). •Movies - I'm not really a movie person. It's hard for me to commit to anything that lasts more than an hour. But when I do feel like committing, I like biopics, crime mystery and movies with an unusual story line. My top five movies that I can remember from the top of my head are: Experimenter, The Philosophers, Elle, Love and Mercy, and Power (I know the last one is technically not a movie, but each episode lasts an entire hour! It’s damn good TV show and I think it deserves an honorable mention). •Books - Over the past five years, I’ve exclusively been reading David Baldacci’s books. He’s incredible!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had the pleasure of hosting a street musician (shout out to Gábor Auth!!) for a few nights in Montpellier and he somehow managed to get me to busk a song with him. I had never done that before but it was absolutely incredible! I enjoyed it so much that when I got back to my home country, I volunteered to busk alone in the streets of Cape Town for a charity event. That was pretty cool.
Teach, Learn, Share
•I studied microbiology, in Cape Town, South Africa, for the past six years, so I enjoy having conversations about medicine, health and the human body. •I am currently learning French, Korean and German, so if you are learning, we can learn together :) If you are a native, I will probably be too embarrassed to speak around you, but we’ll see how it goes :) •If you don’t speak good English, I was an English teacher and am more than willing to help you practice. •I also know a lot of South African languages and can teach you some clicks :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
•Musicians? Jam sessions!! :D (I am not travelling with my guitar the moment, so if you have one that’s great. I can do vocals as well). •I can cook some African dishes, if I can find the ingredients in the local supermarket. :/ • I love having long conversations over wine.
