About Me
Used to be a world traveler, now stuck in Cleveland, OH. Liberal Arts polymath who sucks at math but somehow is a kick-ass accountant type for other people's businesses. Things I've done well seem unrelated but in reality are tied together by the thread of logic and involve analytic thinking, which is is how my brain works to the point that I am sometimes way too literal which ultimately makes me just want to melt into the wall and disappear after I say something conversation-stoppingly awkward in a social setting. Other times, I can really get a person or small group on board with stories and killing it with jokes on a roll, in the zone... Who knows the magic in all that. I can get along with mostly any kind of person unless they are a total asshole who is contributing to some horrid aspect of society.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Why not? I hope to travel again soon. Where was couchsurfing when I was like 25? I am so happy that the tides are finally turning away from traditional 9-5s - slow as it may be. I would LOVE to be a digital nomad and work from wherever at a steady job online while I just wandered from place to place. I am still young enough to make that happen. If I can't go full blown, my goal at the very least is to be able to live half the year here at home and the other half in Texas. Yes, really. I'm kept from the full digital nomad lifestyle thanks to some furry kids, but it gives me time to rack up some experience that will be useful when the time comes.
Right now I'm not in a place where I can offer my couch - literally or figuratively in every way. This includes the basic fact that my couch is falling apart. :/ By August, things may very well be a 180 from today if all goes according to plan.
That said, if you need any help or info about Cleveland, if I can provide it, I'd be happy to. I grew up here, too, so I know all the dark crevices and the dirty secrets they hold...and you know, general logistics.

Music, Movies, and Books
Seriously? Why do people ask this stuff!? So hard! I am into horror movies lately, and podcasts about them from the perspective of critical analysis of theme, social anxiety, gender studies, tropes and all that. And true crime, because isn't everyone these days? I always loved movies or ahem, *films* of various and disparate genres. I like French non-comedy because they get really real, brutal. Subtitles are fine. The best foreign movie I've seen in ages was called Entre Nous. I read non-fiction when I read, but don't often. I like books about various historical and cultural things. Or books that aren't narratives. Like reference or technical type, I don't mean poetry or avant garde. I hate reading books or seeing movies about other people's cool travel experiences because I want to be doing it myself! (e.g. I never saw Eat Pray Love or Under the Tuscan Sun or Motorcycle Diaries...tell me if I am misguided.) I loved My Own Private Idaho and that's a road film sort of but it was still in my dreaming of travel stage before my actually traveling stage! Old timey travelogues are cool, though, cultural artefacts that they are.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
People think it was so brave of me to travel to Greece for a whole summer alone, but I never really got how that was such a big deal. I got a scholarship to do it and I wasn't really about to wait on people to get their money together to go with me! I think the most amazing thing I've done is graduate (eventually) from the college I did with the GPA and awards I got and all the great things I learned and did along the way. Like win a scholarship to go to Greece alone for the summer.
Teach, Learn, Share
If we're being literal, I am happy to teach anyone Latin any time! Esp in a travel situation. Or about art at a museum if it's my topic area. I am happy to learn similarly and about other cultures. I would definitely share my sandwich or candy bar at lunch on the road. Or even a bus seat or earbud.
I have so many crazy stories of things I've seen or done or have happened to me that sometime I think people think I am a pathological liar! Maybe I am and I don't know it? You can judge! I was struck with wanderlust from a very early age and my first solo-ish trip was in 10th grade to Michigan on the Greyhound to visit my friend whose family moved away. I've been on the go ever since. I've never been scared to travel alone, ever, always excited by the whole process. These last three years have been the most painfully sedentary. :( I lived on Long Island for 8 mos and to both Wisc and SFO/Santa Rosa for a few days, so, upon reflection, I should really just stop complaining!!! Circumstances have grounded me, but things are looking up.
