Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

There is something incredibly magical about a complete stranger welcoming you into their home. Of the experiences I had while traveling in the U.K, I can say that my faith in humanity has been restored, and I have been humbled by the kindness of others. To relate a particular experience would be difficult, as I feel it would not fully grasp the joy of being welcomed into another family as if you were already an old friend.

Interests

I feel challenged to narrow this list down. It seems everywhere I go I keep picking up new interests. Depending on what I see and who I meet, the possibilities in life are endless!
I'm an Herbalist, so I love exploring the natural landscapes of places I go in search of beautiful plants and flowers, and meeting Herbalists everywhere I go.
I love following traditional music and picking up as many new instruments as I can.
I have a love affair with the flow arts community! From aerial silks, to fire dancing, I have yet to meet a flow person I don't like, and the whole practice fosters the child in me that is overjoyed by the concept of never having to grow out of play!
Writing, writers, dreams, knitting, crochet, crafts, art, architecture, building, photography, and culture, are some of the other things that fall into my line of interest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Anything that hints at something mystical, mythical, or magical. Non-vulgar comedy. And fascinating thrillers/action.

Music: I love culturally significant folk music. The rest of my range goes from The Black Keys to Iron and Wine to Led Zeppelin. So I'm a bit all over the place. I don't like disco, rap, or piddly pop.

Books: The Discworld series -Terry Pratchett. Faith, Madness and Spontaneous Human Combustion. The River Why. The Soup Peddler's Guide to Slow and Difficult Soups. Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Anything by Shaun Tan.

And countless others I can't bare to leave out, or take the time to name.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one? Gosh.
It would have to be the time my brother saved my life...

I was 4.
My brother (almost 10), his friend Jessica (also 10) and I were walking to our favorite tide pools at our favorite beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our parents were back at the beach, and trusted us to wander to the pools on our own, because it was something we did often, and they were about a block away.

I remember we were passed by a man with bright swim trunks and a towel over his shoulder, "Hey kids, be careful, it's Portuguese man o' war season."
My brother replies, "Yeah, we're justing going to play in the pools, not the ocean"
"Okay..."

My brother and his friend swam in the pool and were playing under an overhang. I sat on the rocks and dangled my feet in the water, because I wasn't allowed to swim if my parents weren't around. Everything was just fine. Until a huge wave crashed on the other side of the overhang and a bunch of sea foam shut over it and fell on my legs.

I screamed until I ran out of the breath to scream. It felt like I had been struck by lightening, or my legs had been chopped off. I was covered from the waste down by Portuguese man o' war. I couldn't even see my legs anymore for all the blue tendrils I was covered with. The next thing I remember was my brother frantically pulling all of them off of me and getting stung himself, but not letting a scream of pain escape him because all that was on his mind was saving me (one Portuguese man o' war has enough venom to kill a 2 year old)

Once they were all off my legs, he picked me up and started running back to the beach. I remember he collapsed at one point half way there, because the pain was starting to get to him, and his friend Jessica carried me the rest of the way.

I was okay in the end, though my legs ached for 3 months afterwards. I remember that day so vividly though, and now as an adult I can't help but think of how brave and courageous my 10 year old brother had been... it was truly the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed, the love of one person for another being so strong that they will face any pain and do anything necessary to save them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: Plant medicine, knitting, crochet, mask making, art, piano, music reading, singing, cooking (Mostly fusion food with hints of Indian, Thai, American, European, and Mediterranean) house painting, flow wand (a flow art) juggling (only three balls so far, but you can do a lot with them!) a little aerial silks, and probably a bunch of other random stuff I take for granted.

I'd like to learn: Cello (haven't even tried yet), better guitar, penny whistle (Been practicing, but tips are always helpful) Dancing, different cooking, new knit patterns, basket weaving, gardening tips, natural house building, how to fly, black smithing, book binding/paper making, how to make and design clothes, how to develop photography in a black room, better photography in general, and how to make a freakin daisy chain!
Really anything you can teach me.
