I'm Vanitha. I am passionate about cooking and sharing meals, learning about different cultures and seeing how other people live and eat around the world. I spent a decade working in the Arts (mainly theatre and opera in South Australia) as a Stage Manager before moving into my current role at a company that assists Low Income House Holds be more energy efficient. I love going the theatre and I love going to the movies too.

I have spent the last 6 months travelling (with my Husband) and have found that the moments spent talking to other travellers and locals to be the most fun, plucking up the courage to instigate conversation with strangers is always daunting at first but always worth it. I love being able to share a meal, some beers and maybe a karaoke mic.

I hope that when I return home that I can help other travellers visit Adelaide, SA, a great underrated place. We could go on a wine tour, go regional op shopping or hang out in some great cafes and bars.

I really love the Harry Potter Series, I recently just reread them. But apart from that I do read a lot of different genres. What I read varies from Jane Austin and George Orwell to Dave Eggers. I just read The Handmaids Tale ( still need to watch the show) and have read a few more Atwood novels since. I generally will read anything that a friend recommends.

I spend a lot of time watching films and television because my husband is really REALLY into films. I love the classics, in particular Roger and Hammerstein musicals or anything with a Gershwin soundtrack. Singing in the Rain is probably my favourite of all time. Both the film and stage musical! But I also really liked John Wick. And Wes Anderson films. And most Coen brothers films but not A Serious Man. I couldn't get into it.

Once when I was a student and unemployed I spent a week binge watching all 7 seasons of HBOs Oz. I was somewhat on edge following that. We watch a lot of HBO. But also Broad City, Avatar: Last Air Bender, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation. Gilmore Girls. Freaks and Geeks.

I was pretty into The Strokes from age 16-23 roughly and many bands of the same ilk but I have a really varied music taste. The best music festival in the world is in Adelaide called WOMADelaide which is so varied with their genres and styles and languages and I like it all. Well most of it. Beyoncé is fabulous.

I made my own three-tiers, multilayered, milkbar-inspired Wedding Cake, which include a completely vegan and gluten free tier. Also a 7 Day Gobi Desert trek and not showering for days and days.
