Overview
About Me
I was born in Vancouver, BC and grew up in a house that my Dad spent 3 years painstakingly building, and my Mom, a lifetime adorning. Since finishing uni I've bounced around apartments in Vancouver, and worked all over the country as an exploration and mining geologist on Copper, Gold, Uranium and Diamond projects. These have taken me to corners of Canada that few get to see, and it's almost always such a sublime experience.
Most recently, despite my resistance, I moved permanently to Yellowknife in northern Canada which turned out to be pretty cool. I was brought up here for work, but this is truly such a special place. To say I have spent a time in my life living here feels really good.
I'm currently working 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off out of a very remote camp in the Northwest Territories where we are mining diamonds. I am really trying to utilize the large amount of work free time I have while I have a job like this to go on trips. This makes it difficult for me to host as I am often out of town - but give me a shout and perhaps I'll be around.
Interests
Having unique and memorable experiences that I fall asleep thinking about with a massive smile on my face.
Anything involving mountains or water: cycling, hiking, climbing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. I also practice yoga regularly, paint and am currently learning how to do first nations style seed beading embroidery.
I love doing massive hikes. That feeling your body gets when it's so physically exhausted that you can't move anymore is some sort of twisted pleasurable experience to me. Albeit I am not a competitor whatsoever I just do it for my own thrill and love taking friends and showing them a good time.

Music, Movies, and Books
I basically reach for two types of books
1)Classic fiction. Steinbeck is hands down my favourite. East of Eden, Cannery Row...well if you've read them you'll know. I also really like books that are a touch dreamy or abstract I guess you could say like Gabriel García Marquez - One Hundred Years of Solitude, and Love in the time of Cholera , The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho or Lost Horizon by James Hilton.
2)Autobiographies and Biographies of adventurers and explorers. I really got into reading all about the race to the poles (North and South) which are some of the most amazing accounts of human bravery (Douglas Mawson, Tom Crean, Shakleton, Falcon-Scott, Amundsen). The history of the Antarctic race to the south pole is unbelievable, and you should check it out! (*Did you know that the first man to reach the North pole was also the same man to first reach the south -the Norwegian Roald Amundsen*) Other good reads on Ibn Battuta, Violet Cressy-Marcks, Sheck Exley, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and my fave gal May French Sheldon.
Music: I love just about all music but have a soft spot for hip hop, soul, and reggae, lots of electronic and indie music too.
Movies: My favorite movie is The Fall. They were super low budget but they managed to film it in like 60+ countries because they basically just piggybacked on film sets that were already set up shooting commercials. Amazing shots of India in this film, almost one of the main reasons why I went.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Free dived with 8 Belizian fisherman all by myself and watched them spear fish lobsters and chase barracuda around and then joined them in a massive feast under a black star lit sky.
Helicoptered over isolated mountain peaks of northern BC and witnessed a massive grizzly bear chase down mountain goats scaling up loose scree which was nuts!
Hiked the John Muir trail in California with my Dad and camped in the most beautiful meadows eating veggies, cheese, and jerky. Trekking the Kalalau Trail in Kauai Hawaii, washing under waterfalls, skinny dipping into the ocean, and picking passion fruit (Liliko'i) off the trees in the forest. Hiking the Annapurna circuit in Nepal where every single day changed climatically going from hot monkey filled jungles, to apple orchards filled with crows, to Yak trodden deserts with the Himalayas poking out of the clouds. I just finished spending 3 weeks this June in Corsica hiking the GR20 which was Crazzzzzy!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: How to tie lots of really handy knots? I know a few from sailing :) I can answer questions on earth science, and metals, and fossils and how things form, and I can guarantee I can teach you how to whistle super loud within 24 hours.
Learn: I want to learn more about bike mechanics, and how to do a back flip (into water, lets not get crazy).
Share: Big laughs!
