Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Recently, there have been more and more events in Moscow which are held pretty much free of charge. You come to watch a film, for example, you get tea to drink, maybe some biscuits, and they play the film. You don't have to pay, but you can put whatever you can manage into the hat at the exit.

But my friends and I thought about it, and realised we didn't know of a club that worked this way. In other words, a place you could come to and sit around as long as you like, drink as much tea as you need, fill up on cake and desserts, and not have to pay. Plus, a club that was open all week long.

So we decided to open one.

Of course, the aim isn't to feed and sponsor free-loaders. But to lift from customers the burden of exorbitant bills, rude waiters, unearned tips and all that rubbish. To create a place in the centre of Moscow where an intelligent person can come as though as a guest to a good friend.

Where all who visit are ready to make friends and do something worthwhile together.

We rented a place in the centre of town about a month ago. We're not even really open yet, but guests have already started coming. And for now, the theory's working.

Each guest, in a word, becomes a kind of co-tenant of the club.

In fact, 'club' is not quite the right word. Our place is a peaceful one, with no smoking and no alcohol. Where you can read a book. Or play the piano. Play cards, make friends with someone... And, in future, we're hoping to arrange some special guests for you - well-known writers, directors, musicians... and much more.

From time to time we admit foreigners to stay in the treehouse for few days. If you wanna stay here you must help us in cleaning treehouse every morning. It's not a big deal, just wash dishes and sweep up the flor.
