About Me
Please call me Sadie or I won’t respond to your messages. I am an English teacher with a background in fashion design and restaurant. Just like everyone else here, I love to travel, and my goal is to visit as many countries as I can.
Despite my super Asian looks, names, and hyper-traditional immigrant parents, I’m all-American - born and raised, but with better taste buds and multilingual abilities. 😜
I would like to explain that I’m currently in my “surfer days” and haven’t hosted because I am young and unstable. I grew up in an ultra small town that tourists don’t come through, and I periodically stay at my parents to help with family affairs while I’m in between my moves, jobs, etc. I’ve hosted my super close personal friends of course because they can accept my messy apartments, but my mum is an amazing host and I’d only want to host once I have a comfy, cosy, clean place of my own.
And I really can’t wait because I truly love making international friends and learning about everyone else’s culture. I think it be really cool for the World to come to me, and I don’t have to run anywhere.
Future goals? Still a work in progress. I mean, I have a fashion degree I’m not using so I hope this isn’t a surprise. I’m learning that I’m a perpetual list maker and dreamer, and less so of a doer. Oops. But once I make up mind, it’ll be safer for everyone to get outta my way! 😜
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m here to make international friends and practise my languages that I am studying. (Khmer, Korean, Spanish)
I think Couchsurfing is great for meeting locals - and locals make the best tour guides and local teachers. Finding like minded travelers can mean finding life long friends.
After contemplation... I realised all my favourite people have well used passports. 😉 Someone once called me snobby for this, but I won't apologise. I'm not better than anyone - I just understand that people have different languages, cuisines, and general way of life - and it works. Sometimes shocking, but just because it's different doesn't mean it's less than mine. I've also noticed that fellow travellers tend to think similarly to me and that's my preference of people to spend time with.
Interests
Travel. Food. Yoga. Pole Dancing. Hiking. Museums. Reading. Photography.
I am very much not into drinking or partying, so please don't invite me to large events. I have a strong preference for small intimate gatherings where we can have normal-volume conversations over coffee, tea, or a meal.
If I go out to eat, I prefer a high end restaurant or a hole-in-the-wall with foods that I cannot make at home. I figure if I'm going to spend money on food, it better be really good, and/or exhibit a culture's cuisine.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't watch television but there are some shows that I've seen and like: The Office, Avatar the Last Airbender, Gossip Girl, Brooklyn Nine Nine. I like watching comedies on Netflix.
I also don't go out of my way to watch movies, but some favourite films: Meet the Robinsons, Gone Girl, Parasite. I strongly prefer comedy, or an inspiring movie - not really into chick flicks, war movies, and definitely never EVER horror films.
Books: I like to read but I don't do it enough. I gravitate towards self help books for day time reading, and fictional books for night time reading. If you're active on GoodReads, please add me!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sept 2015 - My first solo road trip was a six day spontaneous vacation split between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Fall 2016 - My first time back in Asia since I was 5 years old was when I studied abroad in Hong Kong. I actually experienced homesickness!
Dec 2016 - Solo travelled to Maui, on an insufficient budget. Met another solo traveller and we made it work!
June 2017 - Graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design, a degree I'm no longer using. (Sorry mom.)
Apr 2018 - Went on a ten-day solo trip to Italy, France and Spain to hit up vineyards, to spite my ex (a wannabe sommelier). Call me petty, idc.
July - Aug 2019 - Went on a solo American road trip out west. It was expensive - would not recommend.
Aug 2018-2019 - Taught in Korea for one year.
