About Me

Having developed great interest in countries with limited recognition I have been seriously hitchhiking with trips to more than fourty countries on four continents so far, including Western Sahara, Kosovo and Transnistria. The latter is not even on Google Maps.
Currently based in Dubai. By occupation, I'm a frequent flyer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Cause it's cool. I have done some surfing in Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Moldova, Morocco, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine and Western Sahara and hosting in Thessaloniki and Budapest, too. This is undoubtedly the perfect way of getting know locals.

Interests

Hitchhiking (roughly 37,5k km done), hiking, trekking, exploring, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, foreign policy, antique books, flea markets and thrift stores.
Sometimes I end up visiting places for no particular reason. You can follow my journey on www.instagram.com/hanzelkazikmund

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Tarantino, DiCaprio movies, war movies, documentaries. I have to admit I can't recall when it was last time I didn't fall asleep on a movie.

Music: I drove across the Rocky Mountains listening to Mumford and Sons. Twice.

Books: foreign policy/history books... I write a blog named after the great Czech explorers Hanzelka and Zikmund. They have published some pretty good travel books. But it's hard to beat the story of the most amazing rescue mission of the history of exploration, about the badass Sir Ernest Shackleton. The best book ever written on his most famous adventure is Alfred Lansing's Endurance.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having spent years in Canada I hitchhiked more than ten thousand km all across the country.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to share info about Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Canada and the Middle East. I'd love to learn more about the places I'll visit - 'When in Rome, do as Romans do.' I can teach you some Hungarian, and would gladly show you how to play two types of backgammon.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories and some good meals.
