Overview
About Me
I am Varun, a long-term slow traveler. I spend months on the road to dive deep into countries and cultures. I am a travel writer (https://medium.com/@vusuchday) and photographer (https://www.instagram.com/thirdworldstoryteller/) with a keen interest in mapless places, tribal cultures, conflict zones, wildlife and rare drinks.
Winds of travel have taken me to 5 continents and 40 countries. I spent one year in South America, six months in Central America, three in the Balkans, two between Turkey, Georgia, and Jordan, and one in Indonesia. I speak 7.5 languages.
I have been featured in The New York Times, BBC, Travel + Leisure, and All India Radio.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Travel is more about people than places. People make places. I wish to meet locals and understand their lives. I am passionate about little-known elements of cultures. I like to hear fascinating stories and share some as well. Couchsurfing is the ideal medium to get in touch with the locals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent one year travelling across South America. It was the best year of my life. For two months, I hitchhiked some 8,000 km in Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia and camped each night for the entire two months. Countless stories and priceless memories.
