About Me

My Russian name is Василий, but you can call me Basile - Russian names are not so easy to pronounce, and even my granny keeps calling me 'hey you'

So, I was born in Moscow, where I currently reside, but in fact I'd been living in a small town in Siberia for more than 15 years of my life, so now I can tell you quite a lot about different lifestyles we have here in Russia)

Now I do perfectly realize that I am being through the most colorful, eventful and significant period of every human creature's life - my 20s, so I am taking the full damn advantage of it 3=)

The magic combination of English language, friendly interesting people that I host and my lovely job helped me to discover and realize that the World is whole lot bigger than some Russians think. Unfortunately, now I do not always have enough time to travel, that's why I like to host people from all over the world. I'm a pretty friendly person (or at least I can punch someone until they told me this when I need to feel happy), so anyway..) Also I play in a local band with my buddies (I play guitar, synth and sing).
I work for an international Moscow-based company which provides deciphering of satellite imagery. It means I'm pretty used to how our planet looks from the space, and if you're interested in satellite imagery I could show you a couple of unusual shots from the outer space that even Google doesn't have, hehe)

If you've read it to this point then please add the word "SQUID" to the beginning of your request. That will let me know that you've read the basic things and make me happy, cuz I really love squids (and also receive pretty many requests, so that will make yours stand out). You can keep reading further if you have some time, - in this case you will know the name of the traditional Siberian food and maybe find something we share in common.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that every single moment is a precious gift, especially when you're at your 20s, but it is hard to learn to live through it consciously, literally feeling every breath and using all of that beautiful time that we have ooOMG i'm so poetic today, though I'm not even drunk =))

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to show everyone how colorful and interesting Russia is. And that we are pretty awesome and friendly out here!

I've been hosting and surfing for more than five years, and since that time spent lots of jolly good time with wonderful people from Serbia and Germany, England and US, Switzerland and Argentina and a-a-all over the world!

Interests

I looove traveling, especially those crazy winter trips around Russia. I am really keen on good music (also play guitar myself) and do some sports (both outdoor and gym). Dancing is another passion, so if you know how to dance hustle - you're wwwelcome) (actually, I can teach you some basic elements, if I'm being in a good mood 3;P

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big fan of Ray Bradbury's oeuvre and Russian poetry (Ahmatova, Innokenty Annensky) and recently discovered Rudyard Kipling's poetry, which is also not the worse thing I've known. I watch movies quite rarely, but have several favorite movies - like Knocking on Heaven's doors by Thomas Jahn and recent Untouchables by Olivier Nakache. As for music - i looove RHCP, AC DC, but also like country and ethnic genre and have several John Mayer's albums

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took my backpack and tent, bought a one way ticket to San Francisco and crossed the whole United States West to East

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make and eat traditional Siberian food ("Vereshaga" - ooooh!), have a musical jam and share a night on a rooftop

What I Can Share with Hosts

Everything BUT the toothbrush 3;P
