About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting out of Cork

ABOUT ME

I'm tall and hairy, and I tend to be very quiet in large groups of people. However, I do like to drink pints of Murphy's (local stout), so I couldn't be classified as a hermit (hopefully). My favourite pasttime is sitting down, preferably with a book, but a newspaper will do just as well. I like music, but I know next to nothing about current bands because I don't listen to the radio very much. I play the guitar a little bitand I'm trying to learn to play the digeridoo, but I wouldn't ask me to play because I might and then we'd all be embarrassed for a while.

PHILOSOPHY

In Socrates' words: Be good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm not sure yet how I participate. My couch is there for people though.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When my ex-girlfriend and I used to live together, we hosted a diverse range of surfers; two german au pairs; two chinese girls; an american couple; and a german couple. I think that's it. When the two of us went to Paris we met up with a French dude who brought us down to the banks of the Seine to listen to jazz and drink beer, which was class; we would never have found out about that on our own. That's probably the whole point of the couchsurfing thing; making the unfamiliar local.

Interests

Philosophy; history; literature; art, especially modern art; football; Murphy's stout.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite book is "At-Swim-Two-Birds" by Flann O'Brien, but I'm also a fan of Kafka, Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, James Joyce, T.S. Eliot, ee cummings, Samuel Beckett, Dostoevsky, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Arthur Koestler, Nietzsche, Camus, Sartre, and Wyndham Lewis.
My favourite movie is "The Big Lebowski", and I'm (probably predictably) a big fan of existentially oriented films like "Withnail and I".
I like music, but I don't know much about it. My favourite album is "Big Time" by Tom Waits, but I also like Battles, Mogwai, the Redneck Manifesto, Rory Gallagher, and a smidgen of reggae.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing at all. Hopefully I can rectify that shortly.
