About Me
My name is Venke. I'm Danish, but grew up in Sweden. I've just graduated after four years of studies in Paris, and now live, work, and study in Brussels.
About me.. I'm altruistic, social, funny (at least people say that), and adventurous.
I have just had a bad reference and want to share my side of the story. If you are interested, feel free to read it. It is long, so I understand if you prefer to skip it. Anywway, here it is:
Full story behind bad reference:
We had agreed that I could stay seven days. I arrived and discovered that he was currently doing a big renovation project in his apartment. Him and his friend was removing tiles from the terrace ground. They were using advanced and dangerous tools. Meanwhile, I did some administrative things on my phone. Afterwards, I helped clean up the terrace. Then, he suggested we should go and get pizza. I said that I did not have money right now but would receive some in my account the next day. He said that wasn’t a problem and that he wanted to share. Once we came back and had finished the takeaway pizza, he played some guitar and sang songs. So far, everything seemed fine. We talked about life and he shared his story about his traffic accident and the consequences it had for his physical and mental state. I admired his strength and was very accepting of him just the way he was. After playing guitar, he leaned over and tried to kiss and touch me. I told him that I didn’t couchsurf to make lovers and that it was inappropriate as we barely knew each other. However, I accepted to sleep next to each other in an innocent embrace. The next day, he suggested we went to brunch somewhere. Again, I said to him that I could not afford it and would prefer we went to a shop. He insisted to invite me to a café. We went to the café (Pret a Manger). He picked a sandwich for 5,50 euros and the cheapest thing I was interested in was a sandwich for 5,30 euros. I picked it up, and then he said: “that’s so expensive!” (which is true, but it was his idea to go to a café). Once we left the café, he said: “you must find money as soon as possible, because I cannot support you financially.” – Of course, I immediately reassured him I would receive money in my account the same day or very soon, which I truly did. Then, we went to the big home renovation store, Leroy Merlin. We spent several hours there, and I helped with everything. At one point, a bag of powdered cement broke and spilled on the floor. In that instance, he freaked out and yelled at everyone in the store and started pushing things and nearly destroying them. I tried to calm him down. I told him to sit down and relax while I went to fix the problem. The rest of the day, he was just completely moody and aggressive. As we got home, I finally had money in my account, so I went to the store and bought groceries for 45 euros to show him my appreciation. When I was back again, I prepared tortillas for him and helped clean after dinner. Afterwards, he needed to do some administrative work, but he did not have a laptop. So, I offered him to use mine. I even wrote the document for him, while he was doing other administrative things. The next morning, I went to visit my old university while he was at work. He asked me to come back no sooner than 21:00. Hence, I saw an opportunity to borrow a friend’s shower (because the host’s shower was in the construction site and it was a bit impractical for me to use it). We had a phone call in which I told him I would shower at a friend’s place. Then he asked: “is it your boyfriend’s place?” – I responded: “he is not my boyfriend, but yes, it is an intimate friend who has let me use his shower.” (Although, this is none of his business). Then, he freaked out and said: “if you can fuck with him and not me, then you can just come get your things by 20:00 and go, or I will throw them on the street!” At that point, I was at the complete opposite part of Paris and knew I would not make it back by that time. I rushed as much as I could. Luckily, he had not put my things on the street. I got them and went to a café to use the Wi-Fi there. I wrote my reference on his profile. Suddenly, he texted me and said I had forgotten my laptop (in a bag). I rushed back to get it. But then, he was angry about my CS reference and wouldn’t give my bag back. I tried to pull it from him, but then he started kicking and hitting me. Finally, I got the bag from his hands. I ran away from there in complete shock and disbelief. Luckily, my friend helped me and let me stay the night. Otherwise, I would be on the street. Once I arrived at my friend’s place, I was still shaking and hyperventilating for several hours until I fell asleep. This is my side of the story. I hope you believe me. I am a good person in a difficult situation. I just finished my degree and I am trying to start the next chapter of my life, where I will earn money and have my own place to live.
