About Me

I am a cat-loving student who's always curious, loves to see new things, and loves to talk about science, politics, culture, food, books, the subculture you grew up in as a child... anything. Anything other than smalltalk, which I suck at because I'd rather be asking questions. I'm a very all or nothing person, but if you're okay with that, we can talk about literally anything. I believe in trying most things once.

I love food. Food will endear me to a person forever. I love learning to cook new things and getting recipes from new places, or sharing recipes I already have.

I study psychology and I'm pretty invested in my research. Don't ask me about it unless you want me to talk for hours about how trauma changes the brain, or about how adopted children's psychology works.

I'm very driven, but when I travel I like to step away from that, off the beaten path, and see the hidden sides of the city and the people. In Thailand, it wasn't enough to just eat pad thai- I had to sit there on my phone reading about the history of it (which, btw, is fascinating). I want to know the history and the stories!

I love animals, and I worked with cats at my local shelter for about nine years before coming to university. I've worked in a psychologist's office, traveled a fair amount, read lots of articles and books, and done speech and debate for about six years. I have a lot of random interests, like porcelain painting, watercolor, cooking... And I will always push myself to try new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A. I would like to meet odd, passionate people.

B. I would like to see the city from inside the perspective of people who truly know it, not just who visit and assume they know it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love many genres, but especially indie and rap. Bonus points if the rap is in another language (especially Hebrew or Arabic) and gives me insight into the geopolitics or political perspectives involved...

Authors: Madeleine L'Engle, Bessel Van der Kolk, Ray Bradbury, Malcolm Gladwell, Jane Austen, Pablo Neruda, Emily Dickinson

Books/Plays: Cyrano de Bergerac, Fahrenheit 451, My Antonia, Lord of the Flies, A Wind in the Door, Outliers, Dear Ijeawele... so many!

Movies: Becoming Jane, Hidden Figures, Inception, The Devil Wears Prada, Mulan, La La Land.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I started a nonprofit to help tutors find at-risk kids who need them.

...also sometimes I can climb and reach the top shelf which as a five foot tall human is an achievement, I think.

Teach, Learn, Share

-I enjoy sharing a coffee in the morning and talking about books or the news...

-I really enjoy reading new poems or hearing new songs. If you share yours, I'd love to share mine. I live near Nashville, the music capital, so I know lots of unique, thoughtful bands and artists that aren't well-known.

What I Can Share with Hosts

-I love swapping recipes! Maybe we could cook together?

-Travel stories, random opinions, and a genuine desire to listen to you and know you

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, China, France, Israel, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland, Thailand
