Hey there (:
I am Veronika, 23 years old, based in Vienna (Austria) . And I have just come back from my semester abroad in Wales, United Kingdom which was absolutely fantastic!

I am now going to do my Masters in English and Spanish (Literaure, Linguistics) with Education and will probably be an English and Spanish teacher for secondary school students one day. But before that or at the same time I am and will be a traveller, friend, explorer, nature and culture lover!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love exploring new countries and cultures. When travelling I really want to get to know the place and its people and I believe living with locals is the best way to do this!!! I love showing people around in my amazingly beautiful city, giving tips for what to do and where to go...and if time allows share a meal and have an interesting conversation.

I love talking to people, exchanging travelling stories and all kinds of experience...I believe that we can all learn so much from each other...and even a person who you only meet once can have an impact in your life.

I have done couchsurfing before when I was travelling in South America and loved it! Since we organized our trip via the profile of the friend I was travelling with, I do not have any references about that...sorry!

Interests

I am in love with hiking and walking in general whether in the mountains or along a coast. I have been hiking before (yes I am from Austria, and yes we have lots of mountains) but at Bangor University where I studied this semester, I joined the mountain walking club...and now I have to say, I think I am slightly addicted :)
Also I love being in nature in general, running, swimming in the sea....those kind of things....though I also really enjoy city life with all its cultural events, museums, parks......and I really like (good) movies and reading.

I am a vegatarian (though I have fish sometimes) and enjoy preparing healthy yummy dishes :)

Music, Movies, and Books

That's always so difficult!! I keep adding things to my "to listen, watch, read" list....I really enjoy exploring new things.

Regarding music I am absolutely in love with Mumford and Sons and Coldplay....I also really enjoy listening (and dancing) to Latin American music....Bombay Bicycle club, Florence and the Machines, Kings of Leon, Jack Johnson, Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Books: Harry Potter (my childhood), Veinte años luz, La casa de los espiritus (in progress), The fault in our stars (in progress).....
Movies: Atonement, Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Kneightly), Viki Cristina Barcelona, Matchpoint, Hunting and Gathering, Love actually, Anna Karenina (Keira again)....and so many more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think life in general is pretty amazing (most of the time)
and it is very much the small things that count: having a nice chat with a friend, having a coffee, feel the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair...okay here are some of my (travelling) highlights (:

Visiting the Salt Flats and its sorrounding deserts in Uyuni, Bolivia
Working in a social project in Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Seeing the Iguazu Waterfalls (Argentina/Brasil)
Leading workshops (with teenagers and adults both at home and in Nicaragua)
Going hiking in Snowdonia
Walking the Coast path in South Wales (The Gower, Pembrokshire)
Wildcamping (once...to be continued :)
