About Me

"We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity -- in all this vastness -- there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known." - Carl Sagan

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My couchsurfing experience is minimal, but I've had the most amazing interactions with my hosts so far. It has been the most genuine and valued relationships that I've had in my travels.

Interests

I appreciate good art and design. Everything that we interact with leaves us with an experience and an impression. I design software and applications for a living, but I believe we encounter the same problems with every day things. How things are used, how they look, how it feels against the skin, the weight of it in your hands, these are deliberate decisions designers make that often go unnoticed.

I enjoy a variety of boardgames. I'd play anything from Cranium and Cards against Humanity to Carcassonne or Shadows of Camelot.

I love nature, and I'm willing to travel to go see it.

Ultimate frisbee has taken over my life. The ethos, the sportsmanship, the mechanics, the athleticism and everything in between. I am always up for a game or tossing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Huge fan of animated features, productions from Disney, Pixar or Dreamworks.

Fantasy is my preferred genre of books. The series I'm following at the moment: Gentleman Bastards, The Kingskiller Chronicles, and A Song of Ice and Fire.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Looking to live The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Teach, Learn, Share

If people enjoy drawing, I'd love to go out and spend an afternoon sketching in a new city.

More often than not, I'll have a disc on me. The amount of incredible people that I have met through this sport has been unbelievable. I've been playing for a little over a year, and have been extremely fortunate in that I've meet a ton of people willing to coach me and give me their time. This is something I'd love to continue doing while travelling, either teaching a new player or learning from a seasoned one.
