About Me

I am a French student graduating in April 2019 from McGill University (Montreal, QC, Canada). I have been studying Political Science and Economics for the past 3 years (with a 4-months exchange in 2017 in Edinburgh, Scotland).
Before going to Montreal, I lived for 18 years in downtown Paris, France, where my family still lives and where I'll be going back next September to complete my education.
I LOVE cooking, I'll make sure to cook one of my best recipe for you (tiramisu, lemon pie, chocolate and pear pie, ratatouille...). I also enjoy sailing as I raced almost since I was born on dinghies.
Finally, I bought a new camera for this trip, I'll be happy to share my best pics with you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To celebrate my graduation, I decided to spend a month on US roads from Vancouver to San Diego to discover this amazing country. Couchsurfing at your place will be an amazing experience for me to better understand the USA and its people. I want to meet people I wouldn't otherwise and to share with them my stories and hear about theirs!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies
I love mind-blowing movies with a final twist which prevents you from sleeping for days (a special shoutout to Memento and 12 Monkeys). I also really enjoy documentaries about nature (Planet Earth on BBC for example) and history (e.g: the French show Apocalypse which recount WW1&WW2 using colourized original images).
Lately I have been watching a lot of shows/movies about the judicial system (Making A Murderer, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Staircase ...). I could spend whole afternoons in a court room listening to lawyers about any case!
I also like comedies but here I have to be honest, I don't think my English is great enough to understand all the jokes of an English comedy. I will be really happy to introduce you to French comedies (OSS 117, Untouchable ...).

Books
If I had to pick up one single author I could read till my death, I would definitely choose Stephan Zweig. Thanks to him I discovered what a bibliography is. His writing makes you travel in time, live battles like you were there with Magellan, understand how the Scottish monarchy worked and the sadness of Mary Stuart's life or grasp the French Revolution through the lives of Marie Antoinette and Fouché.
Back in the days, I also read quite a few SF books, mainly Dan Simmons' books such as Hyperion or Terror but also Dune by Herbert.
Overall, I read a lot of French classics (Hugo, Balzac, Zola, Molière, Dumas...). If you haven't read The Comte of Monte-Cristo, I cannot stress enough what you are missing!! Sadly, I did not have the opportunity to read many English classics (Shakespeare set apart) and I would be really happy if you could recommend me some books to read!

Music
I am really cherry picking... In my playlist, Leonard Cohen is next to David Bowie, Gramatik, Avicii, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Ennio Morricone or the Turtles. I can't basically listen to everything. Here again I know a lot of French music and I can recommend you some of our finest singers (Stromae, Aznavour or Charles Trenet)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in France, I am a coordinator summercamps with 30 boy scouts. For 3 weeks each year, we go camping without any infrastructure but a pipe for clean water. There, I am often responsible for organizing games.
Last summer, I decided to build a at human-scale battleship. I bought a large wood board on which I drew a map of an imaginary world, designed on my computer that I cross-ruled to create a grid. Then, I pierced a small hole in every single squares and in each hole, I put a fuse, some leading to a firecracker, some to nothing.
When playing, the boys scouts would ask me to light one the fuse where they wanted to shoot. However, instead of being told if it was a hit or a miss, they would actually wait for the firecracker to explode (or not of course ;) )

It was amazing to see the scouts' faces when they understood how the game worked. My reward is that I know they will remember this very board-game their whole life!

What I Can Share with Hosts

As you may have understood, I am definitely French and I'll be really happy to share with you my culture.
I also love cooking (tiramisu, pies) and I can definitely cook anything you want for dinner!
I enjoy talking for hours about the world, politics and movies with a good beer.
