About Me

Hello I’m Vickie. I am 56 and live in the Catskills, in upstate New York. I am interested in doing solo travel, meeting people in other places, getting to experience the real culture of a place, seeing amazing landscapes and interesting historical sites. I love castles and all kinds of stone structures, human and nature made. I enjoy being outdoors and hiking. I do not require constant attention from a host, but am an eager learner so will take whatever information someone wants to share, and will happily share company as well.

I am not really set up for guests in my living situation, but it wouldn’t be out of the question, given the right circumstances.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I want to see the world, experience different cultures and countries, see as many things as I can and meet people. I am, unfortunately, not wealthy. So I want to try to save money where I can, and it’s a lot cheaper than hotels. Plus there is the bonus of finding new connections in the world when one couch surfs.

I don’t really have an ideal situation in my home to host people, but given the right circumstances, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Interests

I am interested in history, art, culture, cuisine and nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love many kinds of music, from classical to heavy metal, and much in between. My favorite female singer is Gillian Welch. And I adore Ani DiFranco. As for movies, I love historical dramas best. But I like fantasy adventure too. My favorite book is Wuthering Heights. I love the Lord of the Ring series. I love Alice Walker, John Steinbeck, Toni Morrison. I love many of the classics from the Canon, and poetry. I’m a reader.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Barcelona two years ago, and since then I have a serious travel bug.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m a good cook and baker. I know a fair amount about certain periods of history, literature, music. I also have some knowledge of plants and herbs, wild and domestic. I love music, and can wax poetic about it for ages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I make every attempt to be a good guest. I clean up after myself and make my bed. I am meat and clean in the bathroom. I can cook and bake. I have lived an interesting life, and am very open talking about myself and my experiences in life. I am pretty easy-going. I do not keep late hours as a rule. Always happy to help with most anything. I understand personal space and am not needy.
