About Me

I'm from the US, but I've been on a working holiday in NZ for the past yea. It's been an incredible juncture in my life-- full of lovely experiences and even lovelier people! Before NZ, I was in the UK for five years studying; I was in London for a year, which was marvelously exhilarating, but most of my time was spent in Durham, a wondrous little cathedral city in the North East. Now I'm on my way back to Ohio to visit my family (via Sydney and Honolulu) before deciding on what I want my future to hold!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My best memories all involve the people I've been around. I relish the opportunity to connect with new people and potentially make friends. Whether it be at a hostel, at someone's house, or on a train, I'm always up for conversation and learning more about someone else's life!

Interests

I ramble about at weird times of the day and night--both the countryside and city appeal to me as sites of exploration. I love watching films and go to the cinema often. Few things please me more than lounging with my friends outside and having great conversation. I'm devoted to cultural history and as such, read tons of literature and poetry, look at art, and study philosophy. I love to make connections with people, both with old friends and new.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to accurately synopsize my taste, which is ever-expanding. I do appreciate immensely anything by Jeffrey Eugenides, Joseph Mitchell, Gus Van Sant, Thomas Hardy and Richard Linklater. My favourite novel might be Brideshead Revisited or Never Let Me Go or Vanity Fair, but the concept of favourites is very confusing as there are so many stories that are important to me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a favourite little walk in NZ called 'Deep Stream' and one night, my friend and I decided to climb up the bramble-stricken, fairly-steep side of the 'ravine' (to my mind-- I'm not much of a sportsperson). I almost gave up because it was not so very fun ascending, but when we got to the top, the sun was just setting and all of the tall grass on the top of the hill was a stupendous burnt orange colour, undulating in mesmerizing waves. I'll never forget that moment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to make conversations that meander and ramble from one topic to another over a walk or coffee or evening. I'm happy to share stories and lend an ear for a hosts stories to be told!
