Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted a couple of guys during the summer for my premier couchsurfing participation and have since couchsurfed with several people on the central California coast. Also Couchsurfed in south India, Tamil Nadu. Have hosted folks from New Zealand, most recently.

Music, Movies, and Books

Blade Runner, Delicatessan (anything by Jean-Pierre Jeunet!), Last Life in the Universe, The Fall, Orlando, Danny Boyle's Sunshine (color me surprised), Twilight Samurai, Red Beard (Mifune), Antonia's Line, Lawless Heart (a goofy title but a wonderful English film with flawed, totally great characters), David Lynch and especially Twin Peaks, Princess Bride...

I love to rock out to Nirvana, Soundgarden, or Filter once in awhile, but I'm not a hard-core partyer. I'd go out dancing more if there were any places in town with grrrrooovy tunes.

My music library includes Radiohead and Bjork, Sigur Ros, Low, Elbow, Aphex Twin, The Books, Coco Rosie, Golden Palominos, Gorillaz, Zap Mama, Chicane, Broken Social Scene, Dirty Three, Dot Allison, Tycho, Deeeelite, Tricky, Massive Attack, Portishead, with a bit of Yo Yo Ma on the side.

Locals: Systemwide (first album only - trance? acid reflex? dreamwalking?), King Black Acid (pink floyd martini razor blade), Floater (University of Tool), Rye Wolves (Mogwai's first cousin).

I read a wide variety of stuff, from graphic novels to complexity theory to good old fashioned historical fiction. I am also a big fan of domestic and foreign dictionaries. Maurice Sendak and Shel Silverstein.

Currently: Fukuoka's One Straw Revolution; travel guides for Southeast Asia and the UK; re-reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; various local rags; a popular Young Adult best seller; Poisonwood Bible; Spell of the Sensuous (ecology/philosophy by a sleight of hand artist)
