About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore San Francisco and Portland to gain inspiration from imaginative, inviting people, and blog what I cook for them :)

ABOUT ME

Ciao! I'm Mike Morelli :)

I am an arts and crafts loving pizzatarian & enjoy exploring the world of food culture mouth first with my fellow earthlings! It makes me happy to welcome warmly as if each and everyone were my own family... Love is easy to spread like a wild fire, and I fling smiles like matches. I'm pretty new to couch surfing, and am very humbled by the experiences of others, but I've been lent several opportunities because of my spirit to trust & connect to newcomers.

I grab my camera and go explore my tastes in food either by stumbling into cheap specialty foods that blow my mind or try to make them myself. I've def had the tendency to do it all myself, but have seen how enjoyably helpful it is to work together ... Locally brewed beer, or stuff that tastes like it is the milk to my cereal.

I seem to be an unusually lucky person in the way things unfold ... maybe it has everything to do with attitude or lending yourself to the world freely. I stay up a lot. I actually don't feel like I wake up until I should be going to bed. Always a project to work on...

I appreciate moments of balance, coincidence & dejavu. Washing dishes clears my mind like meditation. I'm up for anything, and love listening to people's stories :)

PHILOSOPHY

I like to get lost and find myself along the way. It's not about the destination, but the journey along the way.

I subscribe to a lot of ideas ... but generally - Don't Panic. Everything falls into place when stage is set by influence, and that there's always more to look forward than look back on. Nothin to fear but fear itself, and that the world is made of good friends I just haven't met yet. We can learn a lot about humanity by watching animals.

"Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfs yo coucheses and welcome all to surf on mine as soon as I settle in the west coast.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only couchsurfed a small number of times, but am very pleased that I've already had some excitement, and am looking forward to more.

I once enjoyed sitting next to a lady from Portland, OR on a very lengthy connecting flight & by the end we were buds. She was very kind to have let me surf her couch right by Lloyd Center most of July 2010. It was there in coffee town where I learned to appreciate food on a greater level and biked all over that town with my blindly optimistic enthusiasm to share my experiences with people along the way.

On a humanities trip to Montreal in 2006, I met some locals at a brewery in the latin quarters and after a night of stumbling from place to place, they were very kind to have put me up on the pull out. I don't know what to call people I don't know, but I def don't like to say strangers ... visiting these people were trustworthy and made my trip.

Meeting randoms on CS meetup event on FB, and wandering for miles and miles across SE Michigan to search for the best NYE party ever ... and it was ... Thanks Kristen and Sue!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies that resemble theater, or go completely mad with visual personality. 1 example of each, both with Kate Winslet - Carnage, Eternal Sunshine ... I love Michelle Gondry, he's my hero of all film composers.

Muuusic - LCD, Dodos, Daft Punk, Fujiya & Miyagi, Crystal Castles, Black Keys, more. Preferably new... so new I have to hear it twice just to know what to make of it ... but !!! is pretty damn fab

Books - Blank pages to scribble on, Nonfiction, design, technology, world discovery.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I didn't notice this said ONE thing until I'd thought of a few ... and they're not so amazing, but I had fun doing them.

I saved my last shot of film for the whole trip to hawaii to climb to the highest peak of a local volcano ... Walked into a pizza shop in Montreal and asked them to deliver (my friends and I) & the pizza to our hotel ...

Interviewed the president of Acura at the new NSX reveal, played tetris in the owner of little caesars private jet, and have accidentally insulted about a dozen vice presidents, ceos, and executives of big companies by speaking honestly with dumb little stuff.

A guy I met once before asked me to hold onto his bike for the summer the same day my other bike was stolen off my porch ... his was better too :) Coincidences are amazing.
