I'm a half Canadian, half Swedish, 23 year old horseback rider from Canada, studying in Sweden at the moment and planning on finishing my studies here. I lived in Vancouver for the first 18 years of my life and then I moved to the south of Sweden to continue horseback riding in a more academic standing. I went to an equestrian academy called Bollerup in Skåne for a year to improve my riding and learn Swedish. I got to help start 5 young horses with the trainers at the school as well as be responsible for one of them and train that horse to take part in the 3 year olds test in Sweden. I also got to volunteer quite a bit of my time in the veterinary clinics we had on campus and witness many veterinary procedures which inspired me to become a vet. I however wasn't ready to give up horseback riding for 5 years so I spend another few years back in Canada training horses and teaching kids horseback riding lessons and working with an amazing thoroughbred in dressage.
At the moment studying in Sweden and getting all the prerequisites together to apply to vet school!
Horses would be my main hobby but I also like running and yoga!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I travel around Europe whenever I can and looking for places to stay and meet some cool new people. Mostly I am travelling with my brother and we are delightful guests! Very chill and love exploring new cities.

Interests

Varied interests.
I like sports, more playing than following other teams. I do keep some tabs on whats happening in the equine world but not as much as some people. I played a lot of field hockey in high school on top of my riding career.
Museums are not high on my list of things to do in cities but I do appreciate them and they are a great way to see a countries cultural heritage on a rainy day.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm reading Min mormor hälsar och säger förlåt in swedish and I love it!! Otherwise I have of course read the whole Harry Potter series (grew up on it). Give me a book and I will read it and probably like it!
Favourite movies include Big Fish, Moulin Rouge, Seabiscuit. I'm a little all over the place in terms of my taste in movies, as long as it's not horror or thriller I am pretty open minded.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One really lovely thing I did was when I was working with horses in Greece. I got to ride down to the beach with a tour group where my boss met me and we untacked the horse and I stripped down to my bikini and we went swimming in the warm sea! It was so much fun!
Another really beautiful thing I have done was when I was living at Bollerup some of the students could volunteer to be on foaling watch. So I had a monitor in my room that went off whenever the mare lay down and I would check to see if she was giving birth. This way I got to witness the birth of a foal and I have her her first milk before she stood up.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to take a host out for dinner or for drinks and talk and learn their story. How did you end up in this city if you aren't from there. There is so much moving around in Europe for different reasons.
I am also a really good baker so if you like baked goods I am more than happy to spend an afternoon preparing something yummy to eat. French macaroons are something I have recently become quite good at!
