About Me

I am not great at writing, specially about myself, but here are a few things:
I am a young Spanish that has been living here and there for the past years, trying different things and learning as much as I could. I love to solve math's problems and science in general, as well as martial arts, cooking and languages.
But what I like the most is to sit with people and hear their stories, interesting adventures or how they see/understand the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

First and foremost, to meet new people. On a more abstract level, I like William Morris, who defended that anyone should work on whatever makes them happy without payment for it (his book "Notes from nowhere" is easy to read and conveys most of his thought). I think Couchsurfing is one of the few instances where that may actually work.

Interests

I love learning, a good conversation, trying new food and any kind of mental puzzles. Otherwise, I enjoy reading, carving wood (bass reliefs, although I have done some 3D as well), mathematics (I may be a bit geeky), and martial arts (mostly judo and kick-boxing).
Other than that, history, economics, philosopy, languages.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Frankenstein, A short history of nearly everything, The name of the rose, The art of war, Freakonomics, Brave new world, Thank you for smoking, The tipping point, Siddharta...
Movies:
The Matrix, Memento, Limitless, Leon the Professional, Man from Earth, Big Fish, V for Vendetta...
I don't have a special preference in music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have slept outdoors during the German winter covered in journals, removed stitches from my own head with a mirror and a knife, worked on robots designed to remove dead satellites from space, traveled from Italy to Spain on an old bicycle, backpacked through South East Asia... I have a few stories, but I prefer to tell them in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning:
Anything exept dancing (I tried, but eventually decided that I have absolutelly no talent for it)
Teaching:
I can teach how to carve with a knife, but real improvement is a matter of practice. The same applies to poi (the juggling poi).
I have a good background in science, so I suppose I can give general explanations about most topics in physics, computer science, math, biology, (computational) neuroscience and a bit of economics/sociology.
I have a worked on a few nice research projects, I suppose they can be interesting for anyone who is into that:
- A satellite to remove space debris.
- A mathematical model for software for faulty hardware (given Moore's Law, that will probably be a big issue in a few years).
- A project on how the topology of a neural network (which neuron connects to which other neuron) affects the short-term memory and its computational capacity (mostly for Machine Learning, but we plan to try the same on biological NN soon).

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good conversation, a proper frech/spanish meal ( if the ingredients are available), teach carving, or poi.
