ABOUT ME

When I'm not traveling with my elephant (see picture), I'm busy planning my next trip! Other than that, there are three (3) things I like best in life : a) Socializing, b) Having fun, and c) Doing both at the same time :o)

PHILOSOPHY

"Life is a question of priorities"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love the concept of this project and try and receive guests whenever possible. I also talk about this project to people I know, and enjoy CS meetings of all kinds (yes, that includes karaoke!!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As a host only so far!

Interests

- Meeting people : pretty obvious ;)
- Traveling : I especially love south-east Asia, where I spent a few months last year
- Dancing : I take rock 'n'roll lessons and it's about the funniest thing I ever tried :)
- Partying : Rennes is a student city and there always are parties going on here!
- Reading : newspapers, to try and keep in touch with world news. Also, I love reading (often non-fiction) books about places I visited (and while doing so, dig up memories I have from countries I went to --a very nice feeling)
- Ironing my shirts on sunday evenings

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books and can't help ordering more than I can read 8)
- Some of my all-time favorite novels include Ten Little Niggers, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Treasure Island, The Tartar Steppe, 1984... I can even enjoy "dumb fun" novels sometimes (The Great Train Robbery, The Firm)
- Real-life accounts I especially enjoyed : Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, Anne Frank's Diary, From the Land of Green Ghosts : a Burmese Odyssey, Power Play: Oil in the Middle East, Iran Awakening : A Memoir of Revolution and Hope, The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe...
- Great conservation/travel books : Borneo Log (a must read to understand the issues behind tropical timber business), Into the Heart of Borneo (both hilarious & instructive), Beyond the Last Village: a Journey of Discovery in Asia's Forbidden Wilderness (deeply moving account of a wild area protection), The Last Kings of Thule (the outstanding story of an ethnologist in a community of Inuits)...

As for movies, here are some of my favorite
- Dramas : American Beauty, Citizen Kane, Dead Man Walking, Fight Club, Heat, La Môme (La Vie en Rose), Requiem for a Dream, Scarface
- Comedies : La Chevre, Fargo (even though it spans multiple genres!), The Full Monty, On Connait la Chanson
- Adventure : Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Horror : Alien, Shining
- Sci-Fi : Aliens, Twelve Monkeys
- Animation : Monsters Inc, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Persepolis and The Simpsons of course!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While traveling in Myanmar, I was once invited for a couple of days by a burmese monk to a huge funeral ceremony in the middle of nowhere. I was the only foreigner in a crowd of thousands, and yet everybody made me feel at home by taking care of me. The kind of experience that makes you think about what's being lost in our modern societies.
