Chi sono

Seattle-raised guy who has lived in two different countries (Vietnam and Chile) for the past year and the half. Just finished graduate school at Teachers College and now teaching in NYC for the next few years!

One of my favorite things to do when visiting a new city is to walk around as much as I can. I truly feel that if you are comfortable walking in the streets of a city as well as using public transportation, then you can really embrace what life has to offer there.

As the son of refugees, I am lucky to be where I am today. As a result, I feel comfortable talking about any topic and learning about whatever my friends have to share about their lives / perspectives. I think through this sharing, we can be more open and closely connected with one another.

I'm super energetic with an appreciation for cross-cultural communication. Anyone down to share some stories?

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I'm working in a high school that serves recent immigrants to NYC. In the meantime, I wish to travel to a new place each time I have a break. By learning more about other cultures and finding out what I am familiar and not familiar with, I have greater empathy for my students.

Interessi

I love going to parks / museums / cultural outings. One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to explore the local art scene, especially with art murals.

Musica, film e libri

MUSIC
Early 2000s hip hop is my jam. However, I will say that I have getting more into afrobeats (Wizkid for instance). If the song has a positive beat, I am definitely able to move and groove my body. Specific artists I enjoy: Goldlink, Brasstracks, Raye, Gallant, Chance the Rapper, Bad Bunny, and more.

Books
The Best We could Do by Thi Bui (Heartbreaking account of Vietnamese refugees coming to the US, as told via comic style)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (12th grade English memories)

Albert Camus' The Stranger

Never Let Me Go
Novel by Kazuo Ishiguro

The Hate U Give

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

In college I danced on an Indian dance team (they danced garba raas) for two years. In Chile, I performed in a school competition for the national dance of cueca.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I'm a teacher who specializes in humanities (looking at Ethnic Studies and History). So I am interested in the ways racial / ethnic/ cultural identity is shaped in the context of US history.

I'm learning how to adjust to a post-school life, and I hope to fill it with meeting even more people and listening to their life stories.

I'm always willing to share about my life, from vulnerabilities to embarrassing childhood stories.

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

I'll bring an inquisitive mind and ability to adapt to any circumstances. During my travels, I like to buy gifts to give to my hosts (as a way to share the things I have done with them)
