Because couchsurfing is more personal than hotels.
Because traveling is about meeting people just as much as it is about sightseeing.
Because sightseeing is better when you know locals.

My experciences as a host include hosting in Olomouc, Czech Republic and Leuven, Belgium.

I surfed myself in in Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and Warsaw, mostly getting there by hitchhiking.
