Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We believe that a trip will never be complete if not well know the people who live there.

In December 2012, I traveled around South-America, with 2 other friends. Our trip started from Punta Del Leste, Uruguay until Valparaíso, Chile. We have a great time doing couchsurfing on 4 different cities: Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Santiago.

Our best experiences happened while we were of "couchsurfers." We know places that only the locals know, share stories and relearned the meanings of many words, as confidence. I was impressed how people trusted in the key of their homes to strangers they met on the internet. I found this amazing!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For two years, I volunteered in a Latin American NGO called TECHO - A roof for my country. The work of this NGO was the construction of emergency houses, made of wood, in poor communities, construction is carried out by the volunteers themselves with the residents of these communities. In July 2013 I attended the Winter Works, a large massive building houses in five different cities of São Paulo. There were nine days in a row, where I helped build three different houses. It turns out that, coincidentally, this was the coldest winter recorded in recent years and we were not prepared to tempraturas so low. Nine days are very cold, wet clothes, working directly in the mud, with no possibility to bathing. But in the end, it all worked out, and we managed to finish all the houses in time. It was an amazing experience, not only for overcoming some limitations of myself that I did not even know - did not imagine that one day I would feel so cold - but as well as the wonderful people I have had the opportunity to meet, living from that fate that hardly would know.
