About Me

I'm currently on a sabbatical from my work for a year and wandering through Latin America. I decided to take time away from a desk job after a few holidays from work awoke the traveller within me.

I've been on the road for 10 months to date and have visited Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and I'm currently in Cuba. I've been learning to speak Spanish and play the charango while travelling and love to speak and play with anyone who is willing to put up with my mistakes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Although I haven't used CS much for surfing or hosting, it been a wonderful resource for meeting like minded travellers and getting local hints and tips. Some of the best experiences I've had while travelling have been with locals and their friendship and stories have been invaluable in really understanding places.

I'm hoping to host when I get back to London so any hints from seasoned hosts and surfers are more than welcome!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently rereading Siddhartha by Herman Hesse which has been wonderful (although difficult - it's the first novel I'm reading in Spanish!) Other favourites include White Noise (Delilo) and Brothers Karamazov (Dostoevsky).

It's been wonderful rediscovering a passion for playing music while travelling. I've learned to play a lot of Gustavo Santaolalla's music on the charango and have spent lots of time playing the congos in jam sessions through my travels. My favourite bands I've heard so far while in Latin America have been Calle 13, Bomba Estéreo and ChocQuibTown.

I listen to lots of music otherwise, primarily Indian Classical - I play the tabla (indian drums). My favourite groups otherwise are Bjork, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Joanna Newsome and lots more.

I used to watch lots of movies before my job stole all my time! My favourites include Pans Labyrinth, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Vertigo, In The Mood For Love
.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a geek for most things including politics (in particular in Europe and the US), economics, science, music, tv, movies and keen to learn pretty much everything about anything. I'm currently learning Spanish and the Charango so keep to practice both!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a pretty good aubergine stuffed with pine nuts and lamb but it may be safer for me to take you out for some food and drinks!
