关于我

I believe that life is measured by experiences, not time. I could have 1 summer left, 20 summers left or 40 summers left. No one knows. I intend to make the most of the time I have by experiencing as much as I can. I am always open to doing things I have never done before and love seeing different places.

I had many career experiences before finally settling into my current occupation including berry picker, database programmer, marine mechanic in the Canadian Navy, Internet Marketing specialist, summer camp caretaker, food delivery service dispatcher, railway foreman/inspector and more. I am fairly sure my diverse work history is the cause of my diverse interests when travelling. I love to see/do the best and most interesting of each place I visit, whether it be a museum, a fantastic park, or an interesting activity. I especially love local festivals and outdoor activities. Whatever the flavor of the area is, I want to experience it.

I love to travel with my 7 year old son (he has been to most of the countries I have, plus others when he travels with his grandparents). He comes up with some things that I would never think of and has a never ending bucket list of his own. Occasionally my husband comes along as well (being self employed, he doesn't get as much vacation).

I am a big fanatic of keeping busy. At home, I always have projects on the go, from building my massive vegetables gardens or finishing up little projects at our new house, sewing a new quilt, working on a new painting, organizing my closets or baking cookies for my coworkers, I am never without something to do. I like to do the same when I am travelling. I think I am finally finding a balance between seeing everything I can and actually stopping to enjoy the places I am in.

Christmas is by far my most favorite time of year. So much so that for the last 5 years, I have organized a children's Christmas party for my coworkers. Last year over 700 people attended. I have boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations (read: Multiple Christmas trees and thousands of lights). One of my bucketlist items is to visit a Christmas market in Germany.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

After visiting a couple all-inclusive resorts, I felt disappointed with my travels. I didn't feel like I had actually experienced the culture and life of the country and its people. Previous travels I was meeting people and experiencing the country through student exchanges, work experience etc. I have decided that all my future travels are going to include that. Couchsurfing seems like a good way to get back to doing that. I want to meet new friends, share my experiences, and really, see the simple, real side of the places I visit.

One of my favorite things to do while travelling is see wildlife. Whether it is at a zoo, an animal refuge or in the wild, I love watching and learning about animals. My husband and I got married at the Toronto Zoo, we have such a passion for animals.

音乐、电影和书籍

I have an eclectic love of music and songs from all genres.
I have a passion for B rated natural disaster movies that drives my family and friends insane. I also love adventure movies (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones etc) as well as documentaries (particularly ones about adventure sports/travel).
My favorite authors are Ken Follet, James Rollins, Clive Cussler and Robin Cook. I read a variety of magazines about my hobbies and also enjoy non-fiction related to science, adventure, travel, anthropology etc. (currently reading Chris Hadfield's Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth)

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I'm not sure I can pick just one:
- dove head first off the side of a navy frigate into the warm waters of the Bahamas while my fellow sailors stood by with rifles on shark watch
- organized a Children's Christmas party for 700 people
- waded through a water filled bat cave in Panama surrounded by scorpion spiders
- had lunch with an astronaut at the Kennedy Space Center
- sat in a park in Taipei, tried beetle nuts and played mahjongg with some older gentlemen.
- oh so many more

I am pretty handy. We recently built a house and did a lot of the work ourselves. Need a light fixture changed or some curtains hung? I can help out.
I love cooking, but I won't say I am expert. I do have a few special dishes that I would be happy to share.
