About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Seeing as much of the world as I can, meeting as many people as possible.
ABOUT ME
My name is Michael Broadhead and I am a Canadian teacher - currently traveling around Asia!
I grew up on a farm near the small town of Innisfree, Alberta, Canada. You know the universe has a sense of humor when you are a farmer's kid who is allergic to everything on the farm. Thus farming was never for me. I spent a lot of my time as a kid watching TV, playing the original Nintendo/Sega, riding bikes and quads, and eventually using the computer when we finally got one. My first computer was a Pentium 100 running the newly released Windows 95. From that point onwards I was hooked on technology, exploring and learning any software or hardware I could get my hands on.
I attended the same school from K to 12. It was a small school of about 140 students. Some people don't believe me when I say I graduated with in a class of 7 :o) I excelled at school and really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere created by knowing everyone in the school quite well. Math and the sciences were my favorite subjects . I love learning how and why things work. Theoretical physics intrigues me immensely.
I applied to the Faculty of Education at the U of A in 2001 and graduated with a BEd in 2005. My major is Physical Sciences and my minor is Math. In the summer after my first year in University, I started working at an After School Care in Edmonton. Every summer we took the kids on 4 weeks of field trips (I got to plan them in 2004 and 2005) and to a 3 day camp - working there was so rewarding for me that I returned as Director in 2006 (until August 2008).
In August 2005, I moved to Coventry, England to teach. I supply taught for 8 months which was a very challenging and enlightening time. I was able to travel a lot during that time, and if you visit mikebroadhead.com you can read all about it.
When I returned from England, I decided to continue traveling and move down to Pennsylvania, USA as a camp counselor and web designer for Trails End Camp. It was a fantastic experience and I hope to return someday.
In August 2008 I moved to Taiwan and taught at Fuhsing Private School. The country is stunningly beautiful and has some of the nicest people in the world - and of course, excellent students! In 2010 I took a year to travel southeast asia and in 2011 I moved to Beijing. I worked there for 2 years and now have moved to Singapore.
In my spare time I enjoy photography/graphics design, cooking, and organising events.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm passionate about sustainability and this has led me to live a vegan lifestyle.
