About Me

I hail from Chennai, a metropolitan city in South India. I'm currently a PhD student in Political Science in Geneva. Prior to joining the university, I worked as a field journalist for 18 months in a regional news magazine. Before Geneva, I lived in Berlin in a student community where 24 of us from 17 countries shared a common kitchen, bathroom and living space, and we used to get together every night, sharing our work days. I am a very friendly person, a vegetarian by choice, but I respect other people's food choices. The same way, I am a non-smoker, but I respect the choice of others to smoke, as long as I don't inhale it too much passively.

I watch a lot of movies if different languages. I have seen 100s of movies in English, German, French, Danish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish (also Indian movies in many languages). I am a voracious reader, I read a lot of books, especially non-fiction and comic books. I listen to world music of many languages, my favourite being Andalucian Spanish, Balkan Klezmer. I mostly listen to old songs, but I do enjoy latest songs now and then. I am also a gamer, owning a PC and a PS4, where I play during my leisure time.

I'm a freelance photographer, video editor, and I keep record of my daily life through photographs, vlogs and journal entries. There are so far countless people in my life, entered into my memories, journals and photographs. I also make postcards using the photographs I take, and gift them to the people I meet as a gift of remembrance. Especially I am travelling more for the past two years, and the travels have taught me a lot and have made me a better person. I love to meet people from other cultures and engage in conversations. I travel widely, and have been to many countries so far. I already have some friends from other countries and cultures because of my travels, and I know how to adjust and adapt accordingly with their measure of privacy. I get little to no cultural shocks, since I am already exposed to some cultures. :D

So this is me! We should be having pretty much to share about!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been using CS since my first stay in Europe in 2019. I am more interested in meeting new people when I visit a new place. Couchsurfing is not just a platform to have a cheap resting place, but in its roots it also has an intrinsic human value, enabling people from different cultures and affiliations to meet and hangout in the process of staying. Who would want a cheap resting place if the rest is everything opposite to fun, people and engagement? This is what is making couchsurfing interesting to me. I have come to this place from 5000 miles away, and it will be a great time for me to interact and connect with many people from different cultural background and cherish my memories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year, I went to Florence in Italy, and there I met an Italian from Milan. We became very close that we planned and went for a tour together. Our common tastes in music connected us, and we ended up visiting Innsbruck, Vaduz, Zurich, Lucerne, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Brussels and Paris! We exchanged numbers and still now we are staying in touch, chatting through phone. That was a memorable trip! We are thinking of meeting again soon. So maybe during this time if I catch some more new friends, I shall introduce them to my friend, and we all can become one small pack!

Edit: I actually met him in Paris :D It was only for a brief amount of time but we managed to bump into each other outside the Opera and spend some time catching up, before he got into the bus that took him to the airport lol.
