About Me

LOOKING FOR A HOST IN BRATISLAVA RN

Hi :)
Russian Couchsurfer living in Hungary.

I've lived in Hungary for 7 years now. My family soon after the Crimean conflict with Russia started doing everything to escape the political crisis we are witnessing now. Then I went to an American school in Budapest, and now embarking onto a BA degree journey in University of Pécs. By profession I'm a UI/UX designer, I so happened to try my best to find an interdisciplinary field to dwell on in attempts to work with something that will cover many, if not all, of my primary passions.

I am a conceptual artist and surrealist, find my medium in various paints, found object sculpting and conceptual sketching. I find art to be something for myself and for global significance, art itself and talking about it are formative to our society. With that mindset, I also study psychology and art therapy as a hobby, it is something that helps me understand myself and people around me.

Psychology is formatively another massive interest of mine, the relationship of people to themselves and others, action and reaction, and the impact of human nature and behaviour on various global issues (be that regarding politics, climate change or whatever out there).

With all the things I learn and indulge in I aspire to become the best person for myself and others, with the inevitable feeling of existential dread I found my mission in meeting new people, exploring cultures, seeing all the different possible perspectives, sharing opinions, experiences, it all fills me with life and energy. The best way to learn about someone and their culture is by directly talking to them — hence why I'm here. In my travels and general exploration of the world I don't want to limit myself to the separate world of tourist areas and tourist capitalism.

There is so much to be said about everything, but of course there is only so much I could say without writing a novel, so if you also feel you have a lot to say about any of it — ask, I'm always down to talk :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because it is a community that is well focused on helping each other attain the similar goals I have — build a community and meet people, especially in your travels. Authenticity and knowledgeability which people can share with each other is a beautiful aspect of humanity, and I aspire to learn and to share. It's good for me as a person, as an artist, as a psychology enthusiast... So why not.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a massive enthusiast of all music, I don't think there is good and bad music, I think there is music I enjoy and music that isn't for me. Briefly I could say that I currently listen to a lot of punk rock (especially Hungarian and German punk because they were my first introductions to the genre in general), goth metal, heavy metal, black metal, hardcore metal, Finnish rock in particular, hardcore techno, gabber, psychtrance, and then some general famous tracks. Rap and hiphop can also be very fun in specific moods, funk and electroswing get a permanent place in my heart.

Honorable highlights: Pisse, Aphex Twin, Slaughter to Prevail, Brockhampton, Caravan Palace

With movies horror movies and psychological horror/thriller are practically all I watch, my greatest intent in watching any movie is to be left with some deep set feeling of dread/hurt/inspiration. Good horror or any experimental film is one of my main inspirations for my own creativity.

Among my favourite movies are: Dogtooth, Irreversible, The Dreamers, Antiporno, The Big Feast, Handmaiden

Books are a difficult topic because there is a large gap between things I wish I was reading and things I am reading. Because they take so much time, I am very picky with what I pick up to read, and although I want to say that I most enjoy reading horror, right now I read primarily practical things about psychology, anarchism and global economics.

Currently reading: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, Anarchy Works by Peter Gelderloos

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to pinpoint one specific thing that is "amazing" that I've done.

The one that comes to mind is not even something crazy at all, but just a recent experience I keep mentally coming back to. It was three of my friends and me going on a hike in my local forest in Leanyfalu, where we simply talked, shared music, had snacks, and then found a beautiful moist deep in the forest valley to camp in. Brought wood to build our little huts, built a cool fireplace with stones, made food, shared stories. Connecting together and to nature is such a beautiful experience because you are stripped down to so many more of your simpler needs, in the forest away from the access to your normal privileges, it is truly heart-opening.

It was all and all just a very nice experience and I aim to have more :)
