About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet people from all over and find out what brings them joy

ABOUT ME

I like to think of strangers as friends I haven't met yet.

My idea of a good time is verbal banter and philosophical debate. Do you think that's weird? Let's discuss it.

I'm currently on a two month road trip of the United States, talking to anyone and everyone about their lives and what brings them happiness.

PHILOSOPHY

It is my personal philosophy that the way to peace is communication of emotional experiences, not just intellectual experiences. I'm trying to have emotional connections with parts of the world, starting with the United States, so that through my writing, I might help people understand one another more in an empathic way. This sounds very hippie-esque, but I would't self-identify that way. I'm just a girl that looks for knowledge and understanding in as many ways as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I'm traveling across the US and blogging my journey on 4ygen.com. I currently have no home, but will set myself up in DC once I get there. And after I establish myself, I can let someone sleep on my future couch!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't used CS before, but right now, my friend and I are traveling for two months across the US, and we've stayed with friends or friends of friends along the way. Often, these are people we don't know at all, yet. But they have swiftly become friends, thoroughly enjoyed sharing in our project, and I hope to keep these friends for life. You can read more about my encounters with these folks at 4ygen.com!

Interests

Like many people on this site, I enjoy travel, culture, and exposing myself to different life perspectives. Additionally, I enjoy writing, politics, philosophy, law, and friendship!

Music, Movies, and Books

Philosophy: I love Rousseau, Locke, Nietzsche, Arendt, and Rawls. I've read a great deal of Kant, Hegel, Nozick and others as well.

I love literature on the female experience, like Jane Eyre, Rebecca and The Age of Innocence.

I also enjoy science fiction like Dune, the Enders series, Stranger in a Strange Land, etc.

I've seen a lot of movies because my dad owns movie theaters, but some of my favorites are guilty pleasures, like Van Helsing. I love Guillermo Del Toro. This includes Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies. The Hellboy movies are great! I'm a big fan of artsy horror movies, like The Others or Let the Right One In.

My music tastes trend toward Pop Indie, like the Postal Service, Imogen Heap, Iron & Wine, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing thing I've done: started my own Political Theory club at UCLA. It sounds like a nerdy enterprise that not many people would enjoy, but in less than a year, I single-handedly started a club, created a board, and got our membership to 200 people.

You see what I mean? Meeting people who are passionate about something--anything--can be contagious! We had a great time in that club!

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I just learned how to cook deep fried bull testes (or "Mountain Oysters," as they like to call them in Oklahoma), so if you want to learn about that, just ask.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Belize, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Guatemala, Switzerland, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
