Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I lived in Istanbul me and my flat mates hosted two friends from Poland, one at a time, and they stayed there each for about one week. I learned a lot with them, I had an awesome time.

Interests

I love traveling and meeting new people. For me the best way of getting knowledge is just by going out there and see the world with your own eyes. Experience the best what life can offer you now is something that I try to remember while I travel. My country, Portugal, is 2 small compared to most countries and I think that is one of the reasons portuguese people started early on their discoveries through out the world :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Hichhiking in turkey can awestruck you really easily, speacially because of the awesome people you meet. Once I met this really successful entrepeneur and while talking to me he said that he has a lot of money but he isn't happy... After telling his story, I felt sad because I had been a bit anxious waiting for my money from my scholarship to come meanwhile, maybe a bit angry with the situation... After a while I realized how stupid I was to be worrying about money when I had a rich man in front of me saying how he felt having it...
- Traveling around India I had beautiful experiences... One of them was right in the beginning when I arrived in Mumbai and I didn't have any ideia where to go or who to trust. I bought myself a ticket to Varanasi that was 1600km away. I hopped on the train without knowing where to go. After a while the TT looked at my ticket and said: "Friend you're in the wrong place". So he sent me to the "General Class" of the train that is the worst and cheapest class to travel on the train. When I got there I got scared because I felt like I had been thrown to the lions. A lot of people laughing and saying: "English, english..." I just smiled while standing in the middle of the train with my huge backpack there. The trip was going to last 2 days and luckily after a while a guy comes up to me asks me where I'm from and gives away his seat to me. I felt like I was sitting on the clouds because I was so tired at that time.
After a while I started to talk and get to know him and his brother and I asked: "Why did you help me back there?" and he was like "Because for me you're a god. In my relligion we make our best to please our god and to leave him happy so, for me, helping you is a pleasure". I felt like hugging him at that point. I felt that I was safe for the rest of the trip!
