About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To shrug off the shackles of conformity, spite society's restrictions and enjoy this here thing called my life, to the fullest extent possible,

ABOUT ME

American-Hungarian (dual citizenship- yay!)

Ardent traveler (I like to see a new place at least once a year)

Nature lover (trying currently to get more outdoorsy)

Filmmaker, photographer, musician, dancer, artist, moonlit poet, and social activist

Bibliophile

Food lover- both to eat and to cook/bake

That covers a good deal I think.
I'm an outgoing, laid back, accommodating person, and I love to meet new awesome people. I'm not afraid to talk, so if we ever meet, I'm sure you'll find out more about me then ;)

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short, don't sweat the small stuff. Seriously.

Make an effort to understand the circumstance of others and you'll better understand yourself.

Love with all of your heart, and if it isn't possible, give as best you can.

We live on an extraordinary planet, inhabited with a wide range of amazing characters. See as much of it as you can. Be overcome, overpowered, and humbled by it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Let me know if you are in town and, if not to stay, meet up for coffee and I can tell you all about the sights to see around here :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've been hosted by two couch surfers, in Bydgoszcz, Poland. They were both incredibly accommodating and sweet, so great first experiences!

Interests

Art- Trained as a fine artist I thoroughly enjoy art that pulls me in and debating over pieces that don't

Film- I especially enjoy period films, comedies, and any film with true heart- with occasional fluff for good measure

Music- a whole spectrum of genres. Also, I play the violin, and am learning guitar.

Dance- Ballroom, Céilí, Irish step, and watching everything else

And of course socializing! If it's to do with any of the above or going hiking, diving, or biking, going to a cafe, book store or pub, etc...

Music, Movies, and Books

I love so many different genres, so this really is the tip of the iceberg...

Favourite films: The Fall, V for Vendetta, Dan in Real Life, Pride & Prejudice, The Adjustment Bureau- I'm a big fan of beautiful cinematography (The King's Speech is inspiring for this reason alone), larger than life scenarios, and stories that grab me emotionally.

Favourite music: Alanis Morissette, Evanescence, Eve 6, Green Day, P!nk, Tori Amos, Ani Difranco, Adele, Vaughan Williams-
basically, I'm usually a big fan of a girl with a piano or guitar, a great, strong beat, incredible, resonating harmony, interesting/meaningful/smart lyrics, or all of the above! I'm always discovering new music that I love, but these are pretty permanent.
Currently I'm obsessed with the instrumental piece "Ocean" by John Butler (amazing guitar work- youtube it!)

Favourite books: I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan (very witty and entertaining), Revolutionary Road (seriously had an impact on my life and how I want to live it), Eat, Pray, Love & Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert (her story brings you in, holds you close, and teaches you great lessons about life and love before setting you free again), and the Harry Potter series (basically grew up with the characters- my favourite of which is Snape)
I am also fascinated with gender studies and the subversive messages we're given on a daily basis, so currently making my way through a fair few books devoted to the subject

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to think of what I've done that is truly "amazing"- only two things come close. It was either:

when I filmed underwater and it inspired me to get certified as an Open Water diver

or

when I went gorge walking (i.e. walking up a river) in Fort William, Scotland.

I think it's just a sign I need to get out more!

Teach, Learn, Share

I think the biggest thing I've learned so far in life is that humans are very protective of their own sphere, and thus are quick to condemn or belittle others to feel better about themselves or their own situation. I think the media is a major player in perpetuating this attitude.

None of us is perfect and we're all going to make major mistakes at one point or another, or maybe find ourselves in an impossible situation. Instead of judging, or striking back at someone who strikes at us, we should try to see where the other person is coming from, to empathize.

If we loved more rather than bringing people down, there would be more peace in the world. It's much harder to do, obviously, but the outcome would be far better.
