About Me

ABOUT ME

I am Dominick Vladimir Hernandez
24 year old adventurer who is always up for a new experience whether its venturing into an abandoned building, trying a new pub down the road, finding a way over a series of canyons in southern California or just learning a new skill or funny fact about someone!

PHILOSOPHY

"The world is a book and those who don't travel read only a page", Saint Augustine
I really like that quote.
For some personal insight though, I like to think of journeys, and hopefully life itself though I am barely beginning, as full circles. I like full circles. I hate dead ends. Whenever I wander, I never like to back track or go back the way I came. I like to maximize my experience. If it is possible, I always take another route in hope that I will make it back to my point of origin. That's usually when I get lost... but I always find my way (eventually).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have gotten so many great tips and information and love to share what I know whenever I can. I love to hear about new and strange experiences, ones that can help me paint a better picture of my world (as well as where I want to fly off to next!) and make better connections with people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed five times in the summer of 2012 when I trekked across the United States and Canada. Few things went according to plan but it all worked out in the end and I had nothing but great experiences in so many cities with so many personalities!
I also couchsurfed in the Netherlands and Germany and had some great times there as well while I lived out of my backpack.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC:
I love Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Röyksopp and many more; I tend to stick to alternative, rock, electronic, classic rock, and instrumental pieces though I always try to keep an open mind about music and love getting stuck on new things!

MOVIES:
I love epic tales (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars), war/historical movies (Apocalypse Now, Schindler's List, The Deer Hunter, The Great Escape), westerns (Tombstone, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) and all sorts of science fiction/dystopian movies (Blade Runner, Children of Men, V for Vendetta, 2001: Space Odyssey)
Some of my favorite directors include Tarantino, Kubrick and the Coen Brothers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have hitchhiked alone roughly 5,000 miles across the c.entral United States and up the west coast into Western Canada. I had over 50 rides and plenty of stories from all sorts of people from so many places as such different lives and yet, the common thread was that we just so happened to be going to the same place that day! I don't think I'll ever forget it and I have seen changes in myself ever since. But in all honesty, it is barely the beginning in something I wish to cultivate further and push beyond what I expect.
And that's what I hope to accomplish with Couchsurfing again!

Teach, Learn, Share

Some knowledge eh?
Hmmmmm....
When hitchhiking for hours without a ride... ignore the vulture sitting across the road.
