About Me

I am a young expat from Russia, living in EU for 9 years, now living in Riga, Latvia. I have worked in commodity trading and logistics for 5 years and now getting ready to move into IT, particularly into automation of the office routine.
I enjoy learning about the world, people and cultures, via books, music , films and travelling. I host a cinema and a book club in Riga and I play in a band. Besides socialising , I spend most of my time either coding / listening and making music, or cycling and reading.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the two core components of Couchsurfing

First is that it gives a global platform for travellers' solidarity and trust. It helps people to feel that the world is your home and you can be welcomed anywhere, without the underlying trading relations, just out of solidarity and sense of global camaraderie.

Second, it is probably the best way to meet new interesting, like minded people, as well as to truly dive into the foreign cultures as well as to get to know your home city better.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Anything interesting, innovative and fresh, but among the fav genres are progressive rock, post punk, post rock, IDM and metal. Bands like King Crimson, Chameleons, Black Midi, Boards of Canada.

Films:
Groundhog's day and Ghibli films. But overall I like to explore different genres , watch and analyse both modern and older cinema.

Books:
Fiction - Stefan Zweig , Leo Tolstoy and Jack London are the top for me, as well as various sci-fi authors
Non fiction - like to focus on topics of neuropsychology, economics, sociology and culture. Authors like David Graeber and Erich Fromm.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I travelled across the US while participating in Work and Travel program.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English and Russian, basics of philosophy as well as some insights into music making.
I would love to learn anything really, i try to be open minded.
I can share a room in my apartment, a meal and a drink - maybe something more that I haven't though of at this moment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share the enthusiasm for city and local culture exploration, as well as generally be a good, reliable network.
If I am the host, I can give a great city tour in Riga, Latvia, show the best cafes, bars , museums and really accommodate you with the local culture.
