Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

In my travels, I had the opportunity to meet a native Kichwa family in the Amazon jungle in Tena, Ecuador. These family lives in a wonderful jungle property where they discovered 4 unbelievable natural waterfalls with cristallyne water where you can walk and swim. I fell in love with the nature immediately (see the pictures!), it looks like a paradise!. The family received me like another daughter, and I live with them everytime I go to Tena, and they consider me part of their family. I decided to help them receiving travelers like me, so they experience what I did. You are cordially invited to this magnificent place in Tena, and spend the nights that you want.

Because this is a different type of lodging, please consider the following facts : ** Lodgings are camping tents with mattresses and enough blankets. ** The family does not speak English, only Spanish, so its a great opportunity to practice. ** No wifi. ** There is electricity to recharge your cell phone. ** Bring a book for reading at night. ** Bring swimwear. ** Bring suncream. ** Bring strong sandals. ** Bring light clothes but a sweater for sometimes cold nights, and also a waterproof jacket or umbrella (if u have it). It rains, its a rainforest climate with 90% humidity. ** Bring your toiletries. ** Bring your medicines. ** No hot showers, only natural/cold ones, but it is so hot, that you do not really care. ** Bring moskito repellent. ** ** Yes, there are normal toilets. ** You can use the kitchen and garden areas. ** You can help the family in their crops of yuca and bananas or any chores they may need help with. ** It will be great if you want to support the family (optional) with a garden rake that is needed for the crops, the cost is USD 4, that you can donate and will be a work tool. The family will buy the garden racket right away if you donate the USD 4.

** The property is located 40 minutes from Tena city, inside a pristine area, so here is no Supermarkets and nothing to buy around, so if you are vegetarian or vegan, you must do your food shoppings in Tena city Supermarket called TIA, before you arrive, and you can cook your own meals. If you are carnivorous, you can prepare your meals as well, so you must buy them in advance. There is an option of USD 12 per day for the 3 meals (USD 4 per meal ), if you want to eat with the family seasoning. Kichwas eat a lot of soups, rice, yuca (cassave), bananas and fish, eggs, sometimes chicken, local flavor, its delicious!!. Please let me know what your food requirements are before your confirmation.

** HOW TO ARRIVE: FROM QUITO : There is a fast way and a longer way. FAST WAY: 4 hour drive on a shared taxi USD 20 called Autoexpress, departures at 4am and 4pm., they pick you up at your hostel in Quito or any address that you want. Ask the Autoexpress driver to drop you off at Cafe Tortuga, located at the Malecon of Tena City. I make the reservation for you. LONG WAY: Take the Trole bus in Quito to Quitumbe bus station (South of Quito). Take the next public bus to Tena, cost USD 8 approx, takes 5-6 hours, arrives in Tena bus station. A member of the community will be waiting for you at the bus station and then take you to the supermarket (if you want to cook your own meals) to buy your food, and then take you to the other local bus station to go to the property, about USD 2 dollars. Sometimes one of the family members may have a car available, and take you for USD 5. If you arrive too late in Tena city (after 3pm), there is no more local buses, and a local taxi charges USD 12. So, you must try to arrive 3pm in order to make the supermarket shoppings and catch the last bus to the property.

** ACTIVITIES : The main activity at the property is the visit of the 4 waterfalls, that takes at least 2-3 hours (you can stay longer if you like to spend more time swimming) , and the family gets an important income from hiking it. This activity must be paid by any visitor, only USD 2,50 p/person, as a contribution for their living, you will get a member of the family to walk you around for hiking and swimming Other optional activities like Water Rafting or Jungle Walks are paid separately for USD 40 p/person. There is a possibility for an Ayahuasca ceremony (the Mother of the family is a certified Shaman), for USD 50 p/person (optional). Welcome!
