About Me

CURRENT MISSION

help as much as I can

ABOUT ME

I am Spanish, born in a family that has moved rather often for the last three generations. I was born in Argentina, grew up in the Balearic Islands where I learnt to sail, then spent 2,5 years in Alicante, then went to France alone at the age of 18, then in 2009 came back to Spain to live in the (so far unknown to me) town of Valencia, which I abandoned recently to make an adventure trip around the world. After sailing for five months in the Atlantic, I've come back to stay in Alicante. My current mission is to become a leader and my first step, to learn to handle money. I studied history and sociology, both about women's studies, I also travelled a lot around Europe and a little outside, learned a few sports (horse riding, climbing, some defence, windsurf, ski...), a few arts (tango, rock, salsa, theatre...), some new tongues (Italian and a bit of Russian), I wrote a novel, I became member of a cinema jury and then chaired it, I taught in a French school, I tried several little jobs and many other things... I love learning almost anything, and that you can only do by meeting people. I love also to get to know people (yes, the human race does fascinate me) and I have a set of political and social ideas which include sharing the couchsurfing spirit, so nice to meet you all!

PHILOSOPHY

I think a lot and I like very much talking to people, so my ideas have changed more than once. But so far: I deem being a human being is more important than any differences like gender, country, political ideas, sexual orientation, age, amount of money, etc... so I strongly dislike people who see others primarily as members of these categories (or any other you can think of). I believe that my ideas may not be good for everybody, but I chose them because they suited me; I believe that every person is firstly responsible for his or her life, and also that a happy person can do more for other people than an unhappy one; so I take care first of my own happiness; I believe that contact with each other is essential for humans, and that love is the surest way to happiness; so I am always seeking love... And I believe that because we all need other people just to make us human, everybody in a given society should be recognized as a useful and important person for that, and have a right to any material goods and services that he/she may need, regardless of him/her having or not a paid job or a lot of money. Of course, to achieve that the whole economic system would need to be reorganized, and made to match the needs of the society (and not the reverse). But that would be a very long debate which I prefer to have with a real guest - or host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing, hosting and talking about CS !

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed and hosted quite a few times, mostly positive experiences although I have to say that this last year or two there are more and more unreliable couchsurfers (people who cancel at the last minute or who offer to host in hopes of getting sex), which is mainly why I've been much less active on CS.
Aside from CS, I'm used to staying at other people's houses and hosting people at mine (friends and family mainly). A few years ago I spent five months sailing and living with another person on his ship. That was probably the toughest and most life-changing experience I've had so far. I can't think of any more effective way of learning companionship, respect and tolerance. We didn't know each other before and we ended up becoming true friends, so I daresay it was a success!

Music, Movies, and Books

A lot, so let's say just Lynda Lemay and Joaquín Sabina for music, Gregory Peck and Natalie Portman for cinema, and Fernando Savater and Isabel Allende for books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen: the Iguaçu falls.
Done: spend five days at sea, on a gorgeous Polish ancient-style sailing ship with wonderful people. Also to have entered the State archives in search of History, and to have read the very same documents people wrote almost a century ago. In 2010-2011 I was given a class of teenagers to teach, which was just awesome and, I'm happy to say, I survived the experience (and so did they).
And the following year, well, the five-month trip across the Atlantic, which was above all, an awing human experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learn:
I love to learn more about cultures, customs, quotes, cinema, literature, places to visit, and generally everything that goes way out of the ordinary. I'm also very fond of practical learning: say self-defence, dance or acting (great fun, all three).

Teach:
I'm willing to share anything I know, and I know a little about many things. A few topics I enjoy discussing at length: The Lord of the Rings, gender issues, personal growth, the great questions (what's the best political system, what is the purpose of life, does fate rule our lives, and so on). Warning! I am next to hopeless on some topics like music or TV (meaning my knowledge is little more than a gaping hole). As for practical knowledge: you can practice languages with me, you can learn to make some knots, and if ever you have a sailing ship and don't know how to manage her, then surely I can help you!
